Haven't had a chance to pick it up yet, but I've read several odd reviews so far where at least two of them have said "if it's a bad idea, it must have been from Straczynski's outline, but if it was a good idea then it must have been all Roberson's idea." I'm confused though because the DC site only credits Straczynski with this issue. Was this the first one written by both of them or is that #708? Anyone read it yet?

I've read it and JMS has story credit only. It definitely has a different 'voice' and there's one thing that the new writer does that I felt was a smart move to quiet some of the...well, sorry to say it...whiners. And something that really struck me is how many people I've seen writing that Supes is back in character and I can only assume that they wrote that after reading *only* the first page.
I've seen both good and bad reviews but there's nothing in this issue that I couldn't have seen coming from JMS's writing in earlier issues.
Let us know what you think, okay?

Being a big fan of Roberson, he laid out the book and did the dialogue for the story. I have an interview with him next month, so I'll find out how much JMS contributed to the story. Though knowing JMS, he typically has pretty detailed outlines.
I thought the issue itself was okay. Superman most definitely has a different voice now, but I am reserving judgment as to whether that's a good or bad thing. Hard to tell with this issue where it implies he's being mentally manipulated (small spoiler?).

I think JMS may have been too subtle for the audience. I've seen people actually posting that Superman wasn't flying at all in the 'Grounded' storyline which was ridiculous. There was never any indication that Supes wouldn't take care of things that needed him; the focus for the storyline wasn't on that, though. After all, that's business as usual and hardly interesting.
In a recent interview JMS commented:
Q:It seems like Chris Roberson is immediately taking things off in his own direction. Is that true? And if so, what are your thoughts on this?
JMS: HeÆs pretty much going where the book was going to go. If you go into my previous issues, you have Batman suggesting that thereÆs something potentially very wrong with Superman, and you have this woman affecting his perception, trying to control or influence him...itÆs all being set up right there. But there are always some online critics who like to dump on a guy, and they automatically assume if itÆs good, it must have come from somewhere else. They donÆt understand that the earlier stuff was set-up, and that the set-up is ultimately about the pay-off, and the pay-off is the point of the story.

I see Joe made the same comment that I started this thread with, "they automatically assume if itÆs good, it must have come from somewhere else." The thing is Joe usually has reasons for doing things in a certain way that become revealed later in a storyline; more then just what's on the surface at the beginning of said story, so I thought it a little odd that people assumed that Superman wasn't doing Superman things just because Joe sucks and that there couldn't possibly be more to the story until Roberson came in to save it. Joe's stories are like a flame under a gasoline tank - it burns slow and calm for awhile, but soon the explosion is going to come.

I liked it even though I am not a big of the multiverse. Clark and Diana not knowing one another was very weird. From what I heard Diana being lost in time is just the tip of the iceberg going into Flashpoint. I think the woman is Brainiac since it was an item from Krypton that infected her like a virus plus she seems to be on par strength wise with Wonder Woman. It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds, I just hope he has a good end to this.

It is weird watching Superman not know Diana, but I think that crossover helps generate interest in the Wonder Woman title. I looked at it as kinda an advertisement.
As far as flashpoint, is the whole DCU crossing into that? I thought it was just a Flash thing.

From what I understand and this is just rumor, Flashpoint is Barry trying to fix the DCU, so I expect a crossover into a lot of books if not be an event book like Blackest Night. Flash had a Wonder Woman cameo with the future Rogues talking about it as well as a very large picture of Diana. I just hope they don't do the Doctor Who Crack in Time storyline. Then again the plot sounds like it with Barry in the Amy Pond role.

It could be that Joe had planned to tie the Superman and Wonder Woman stories together early on, since he started writing them at the same time. A Superman that isn't quite right; a Diana that's in a different world; there could be a lot of possibilities that come together at the end of each arc. Looking forward to reading more. (haven't had much time to comment recently; my parents were in town. Hopefully will post more thoughts later this week.)
