  • Future pair-ups in Brave & the Bold

JMS mentioned some of the pair-ups he's either planning or considering for B&B:

    Phantom Stranger & Supergirl
    Lois Lane and Adam Strange
Metal Men and Challengers of the Unknown
    Jor El and Jonathan Kent

A fan asked about another pair-up that JMS had mentioned last year, Swamp Thing & Lex Luthor, and JMS said it's still under discussion but that he expects to win in the end.

who personally can't wait to see JMS do Metal Men.

The two issue LSH/Doom Patrol and Inferior Five/Legion of Substitute Heroes tem-ups was pretty fun.

DC did officially announce at ComicCon that DC universe characters that had been exclusive to Vertigo are now going to be available again for use in DC Universe stories. They even canned an already scripted Swamp Thing series for Vertigo written by China Mieville. An upcoming issue of Action written by Paul Cornell will feature Death from Neil Gaiman's Sandman run.

JMS confirned on his Facebook Fan page that The Brave and the Bold is being set aside so he can concentrate on S:EO #2, also.

Pity, I'd've loved to see JMS' take on Metal Men and I really enjoyed what he did with those.

I'm honestly surprised by the amount of effort jms has to put into the second graphic novel, requiring all other projects to be shelved. Given his typical monthly page count that he had expected to write (Superman,Wonder Woman, and Brave and the Bold), I wouldn't expect the graphic novel to need such a focus and time commitment.

Yeah, well, the rent is cheap, the pay is decent and I get to make my own hours.

All *monthly comics* projects. We don't know everything about his other commitments since so many of his projects aren't announced until they're well underway. Still, he mentioned the Nano project for Dreamworks Animation (Huzzah!!) and Vanishing Point for Bruckheimer/Disney in addition to re-writing Underworld 4.

He's said for some time now that he likes doing the mini-and -maxi-series where the writing and art are done before they're really on anybody's radar. After the issues with The Twelve (where first he, then Chris kept being unavailable) and how his recent illness derailed some deadlines for Superman and Wonder Woman, I can understand his wanting to get off of the monthly grind. And if he quietly works on things of the quality of Midnight Nation or Silver Surfer: Requiem, I'm okay with waiting for those.

I am glad he gets less time on monthlies, as his health and quality output will be enhanced!
Silver Surfer Requiem and The 12 - are works I want finished also so I'll keep my patience intact!

As for BandBold - I'd like Phantom Stranger and Spectre under JMS, but this book is peripheral to me and I'm sure this gives other writers a chance to shine the DCU way

JMS to me, is top priority for SUPERMAN E1 as I loved his and Shane's output in this book, so more $$ for DC and more enjoyment for my Superman mythos

Please guys...E1 V2...be fleet of feet and hurry

Just found this in a report from Wondercon:

The status of writer J. Michael Straczynski and the "Brave & The Bold" book came up with the Co-Publisher saying that he just had dinner with JMS in LA this week to talk comics. "He loves comics, but he is extraordinarily successful writing in film and TV," Didio said, noting that for now the writer will focus on the future of "Superman Earth One" in graphic novels and that they decided to retire the DCU "Brave & The Bold" book to not create confusion with the kids cartoon property.
I understand his reasoning but I did enjoy much of what JMS did with B&B. It's kind of a shame to see it shelved completely.

Indeed. Would be nice if JMS could pen episodes for the cartoon show though...

I was disappointed to not see JMS nominated for any Eisner's this year. I really expected to see either the B&B issue "Girls Night Out" or "Superman: Earth One" on the ballot.

Saw in a recent article a mention that Joe would write more Brave & the Bold soon. Anyone know when this might start up again or was this just speculation?

He did mention that he might return to the Brave and the Bold but it would be after he's done with the four comics he'll be doing for Joe's Comics.
