  • JMS Comic Update January 2010

JMS posted an update on various projects last night. Here are the comic-related bits:

    > Superman: Earth One and your plans. It's scheduled for 2 GNs per year?

At this point, I believe that's the plan. The script for the first
128 page GN is done and in, most of the art is done, and a bunch of
the pages have been colored. So we're well ahead of the game. (They
need a full year to properly promote the book and get it out there.)

    > Brave & the Bold (loved #29 with the Geek)

Atom/Joker comes out in a week or two, then it's Aquaman/Demon, then a
combo of Batgirl/Wonder Woman/Zatanna, then a kind of experimental
situation with two issues on a parallel track, telling different but
related stories with different teams (first: Legion of Super-Heroes
and the Doom Patrol, followed by the League of Substitute Heroes and
    the Inferior Five).

    <snip>

    And comics/movie related:

I'm finishing writing Midnight Nation as a movie which one of the
biggest producers in town wants me to also direct. There may also be
some movement soon on Dream Police and a new SF film trilogy I've put
    together for film.
I'd *love* to see Dream Police as a movie!

Sadly, no news about the long ago proposed B5 graphic novel...
    Is it already dead???

Personally, I couldn't care less about another Superman-comic, even if JMS wrote it - well, I was never much into superheroes, I have to admit.

No word on it recently, I'm afraid. But he's never said it was dead, either. Though I suppose it might have been included in his 'no more B5 except a big budget feature film' decision. KoshN posted to the newsgroup asking about it but no answer so far.

        Thanks for the info, Jan.
So we'll continue waiting, but you could be right, the JMS decision regarding future B5 projects you quoted really sounds like "not even the comic"...!
Well, I could live with a clear "won't happen", better than waiting for years.

          Then he could say that.

...and I'm betting there won't be.

And that's why I asked ""Is the B5 Graphic Novel dead?" on Jan. 5, 2010, ....to get an answer, one way or the other. It's better than [Galen]..."waiting 20, 30 more years."....[/Galen]

A slight improvement over the curt
            B5 GN?
            you posted on 1/4.

Blame me. I didn't put it on my list of projects.

No one to blame, JMS stayed silent so long on this topic, you can't ask for every project that might have been related to him during the last years, you asked about the current subjects that seem to be in a more recent pipeline, that's perfectly okay.

But thanks to you, KoshN, for asking this particular question - which no doubt interests everyone here in these forums - so that we finally might get an update on that topic. As I said before, I'm with you, JMS should declare it dead or at least "on undefinite hold", better than having us wait any longer. During the last years, he tends to "you'll hear something in a couple of months..." or similar cryptic messages, but only half of them really lead to something.

You took that to be curt as in rudely brief, abrupt or brusque, when it was merely concise and in the same form as JMS's "Superman GN" near the end of his Monday, January 04, 2010 9:38 PM post.

Rather than writing a paragraph, taking up more of somebody else's time in reading it, I tried to be brief, to reduce the question to the minimum number of characters, just like I'd reduce an equation to its simplest form or provide an engineering or programming solution without needless complexity. You took offense where none was intended.

I'd just like a definitive answer, and would be perfectly A-OK with "It's dead."

Nope, but then again I don't expect one.

An update on JMS' plans for "The Brave and the Bold" in this CBR interview.

I like it when he gets experimental.

                          Thanks for the info, Jan.

Yeah, new superhero-stuff... unfortunately, as I mentioned before, personally I couldn't care any less...

Wonder if he'll get into some other genres too with his graphic novels.

I'm holding out for a complete story of some sort too (no superheroes) that doesn't get chopped after the first few issues. It's like all the new shows that start in the fall, just as you get into them... Splat! Out comes the fly swatter!
Flying around the room under my own power.

Well KoshN, I get the feeling JMS might really not respond to your question...
