  • Rising Stars, Dr.Spectrum & Supreme Power

Hi all, i'm just wondering if anyone is sure of when the next issue of Rising Stars is coming out, i read a while ago that JMS had handed the scripts in and we're just waiting on Top Cow to release them but does anyone know what date this'll roughly be please?
Loving Supreme Power but hating the hiatus they're supposed to be planning, also does anyone know any details of this new Dr.Spectrum series?
    cheers dudes

The Jerimiah and Comic threads on this site are a joke. Like a friggin' ghost town in here.

And someone please explain the difference between ''general'' and ''off-topic''

*shrug* Most people come at Joe from B5, that being his (seemingly) most popular work. I'd hazard a guess (a hazy one at that) that most comic circles already have their own boards or run on usenet and don't need this place. If you're really needy for action, there's always the option of starting a thread yourself.

        One gets used, one doesn't?

General looks like it was supposed to be about Joe in general, when that's pretty much covered by all the other boards. Off-topic is just a better catch-all. Ah well.

::shrug:: Actually, I speak from experience.

So please don't lecture me about the site.

          Thanks

The new PREVIEWS is soliciting RS #22 for an October ship.

"RISING STAR #22: Phoenix In Ascension" Part 1 of 3. J. Michale Straczynski's superhero tour-de-force returns and speeds towards its whipsaw conclusion! The superpowered "Specials" set out to change the world. Now that one of the Specials is elected President of the United States, the world will change...whether it wants to or not."

I am almost done with the first TPB of SP. I will post some thoughts on it perhaps later tonight.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

                I finished SP.

It was...interesting. I have read comics on and off since 1997 and I have to say that while this isn't anything near the best of what I have read, it is very interesting. When I first bought it, I had no clue it was a JLA spoof with serious overtones. The actual origins of the heroes parallel with DC's, but are more deep.

I can already see the strained relationship forming between Hyperion and Nighthawk, similar to the love/hate relationship with Superman and Batman. I think Nighthawk may turn out to be a bad guy for a while. I am glad Hyperion said to him all the things I wanted to say to him.

Yeah, it was very realistic in that the g-men showed up at the "Kent's" house. That was always a question I had about Superman.

No bad guys yet, aside from the tease of Nighthawk.

I liked the hand thing, similar to Londo's in B5.

I have one prediction...Hyperion knows where his parents are, because when he was changing, the General mentioned Amsterdam and he has that hyper hearing. I bet there will be a frame in a later issue where he remembers the General saying that, and goes looking for them.

And one prediction I don't want to happen is Hyperion taking the old scruffy journalist wearing a nightgown on a night flight.

It does have plenty of the potential for bad guys though... with at least two of the strange "not-alone" stories being completely unanswered. Plus the strange question of the awakened colonel. Hell, each of the four "heroes" - miles from being a team yet - has the potential to go bad in a very serious way.

Which of course, makes it all the more real.

And yeah, the Amsterdam thing was kind of a "duh" setup.

I'll be grabbing the next TBP when it hits. I'm not really into comics, but I'm into JMS's.

EDIT - I'm kinda curious if the old scruffy journalist will be seen again. For being a bit role to get the story movin', he was a decent character.

The best thing the series has going for it is potential. He has a chance to tell a "Super Team" story with continuity, not like DC, with it's mishmash of "this counts" and "that doesn't." Characters like The Flash, Green Lantern, Batman and so on had their own creators/writers and then the "team" writers did their own thing. And that was after the original characters' titles had continuity changes.

One thing I noticed is that there wasn't much on the "Aquaman" character. Sounded like a genetic mutation.

Oh, and do you think there will be "supervillains?" Or just ordinary evil government type enemies?

Nah. It'd be a dull tale indeed if there was eventually nothing that could kick the heroes ass. But I trust that it won't be your typical mad-doctor Doctor Evil villain either.

May I just say that whole scene creeped me right the f*** out.

Aside from that... keep in mind she was watching a falling star when she made her wish...

Well SP is by far the best damned series of comics that I've ever read.

Which comics are you refering to here ZD?

Oh, come on, if you have ever read comics, you have to know there are others that at least match up to SP, given taste.

Heck, let me just toss out a random one...Kingdom Come.

Well, the last issue i read of SP was number 12. I could spoil a lot of the upcoming things that are going to happen, but i won't do it.
I will just note that it will get more interesting...but that was to be expected...

Oh, one note to ZHD, regarding your question if there will be supervillains...

                              Small spoiler warning

Similar to the way that the virus that Hyperions ship carried altered the Blur and Aquawoman (don't know her name yet) are there others who have been changed...but this does not only happen to the good guys.
And we will learn that some of these individuals have been altered by purpose...
