  • Star Trek Comic Collection

So apparently they are going to release a Star Trek comic collection for your computer that will have scans of every Star Trek comic ever officially done (with the exception of the current run) and it will only cost $49.95. That means it will include jms' Worldsinger in there somewhere. I am wondering how they managed to pull this off and get both Marvel and DC to agree to it, and get it so cheap, when the books that had only the Gold Key comics and not the full run cost $22 each!

Fogive my ignorance but both Marvel and DC have published Trek comics?

I enjoyed 'Worldsinger' and managed to pick up the script a few months ago. One of the few chances I've had to compare a finished comic to the script.

^Marvel was the second publisher of Trek comics when TMP came out. Those comics weren't all that great and writers/artist were limited to only what was seen in TMP by their licensing agreement. It only lasted 18 issues.

DC took over with TWOK, publishing two series of TOS, a mini of TNG, a series of TNG. "Worldsinger" was published in the second series of TOS. By the way, Jan, where did you get the script from?

Malibu comics, however, published the DS9 comics. Malibu, iirc, was eventually bought by Marvel.

Marvel then got back Trek when Paramount decided to do their own comic imprint in partnership with Marvel Comics. Except for a series based on Pike, the rest of the comics were rather forgettable.

Wildstorm, an imprint of DC, did a few special minis ranging from TOS to VOY.

Then Trek comics went away for a long while until IDW took over the license, which continues today. The IDW comics won't be on the electronic collection.

I loved the DC run of the comics. There was some really good story lines, as well as memorable characters. Mike Barr and Peter David really created magic.
A plus will be the complete gold key run. I could never collecte a full run of those books.

Yeah, well, the rent is cheap, the pay is decent and I get to make my own hours.

Didn't DC publish the Academy series? I have them down in one of my boxes.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

I'm looking forward to this collection because

              A) I'm a comic collector, a Star Trek fan, and a completist,
              B) It will push me ahead in a little personal Star Trek project I've been working on.
              c) I'll be able to finally sell my old Trek comics in favor of this new matrix.

I just hope my crap computer will run it, or I'm going to need a new one.

                      It is pdf.

I don't know how it is, because I was right, my home computer won't run it (It's DVD-ROM instead of CD-ROM, and I have no DVD-ROM drive), so I have to wait until I can sneak some time alone at work to look at it.

Because I can't afford a new home computer until next year.

                      Then I'll tell ya.

It is comprehensive, though. List of contents is pretty long.

I expect I'll be able to sell my actual comics for about as much as I paid for the collection, so that's worth it in my eyes.

Off topic. a DVD drive costs under $50.00 and pretty easily replaces your existing drive. A few plugs and screws and you're done.

Yeah... but knowing me, after I work on it, it's my computer that's done, not me. I have bad luck repairing things myself. Operate, sure. But repair? I'm Mr. Explodey.

Anyway, I finally got a look at the thing this weekend. Not bad at all. Comprehensive, clear, readable (although I'm going to have to tweak my resolution or get a bigger screen or something if I actually want to be able to page through it one click per page.

I also copied the thing to my portable hard drive, so I can read it from my home computer. (Interestingly, the University antivirus triggered several "possible" alerts during my copying, but didn't seem to think anything was bad enough to not let it pass.)
