  • JMS no longer Marvel Exclusive

According to this artical at Newsarama, JMS hasn't had an exclusive contract with Marvel for a while and will now be branching out.

About eighteen months ago, I opted not to pursue another multi-year contract with Marvel, instead remaining exclusive on a month to month basis. During that time, I began the process of scaling back the number of monthly titles I was writing for Marvel to Amazing Spider-Man and Thor, alongside limited-run special projects such as The Twelve, Bullet Points and Silver Surfer: Requiem, projects outside continuity where I felt I could do my best work. I continued to pull back until I finally reached a point of having just one monthly title, Thor, and the maxi-series The Twelve, which felt about right, which is why I announced about six months ago that I would not be taking on any new monthly titles outside of Thor, only special projects.
I'm glad I'll be at WonderCon:

To that end, I will have several substantial comics-related announcements to make at WonderCon in San Francisco this weekend. It is my hope that the cross-pollination of working for several major companies will help me continue to grow as a writer, and will create opportunities for fun stories with characters I've wanted to write for my whole life. It is also my hope that those readers who have enjoyed my work over the years (all three of you) will come along for the ride. We have much coolness ahead of us.
Looks like things may be exciting in comics again soon. Well...soonish, since it always seems to take forever for things to hit the shelves.

I'd love to see DC give Straczynski a shot at Superman, with the guarantee of a one-year run minimum and no ridiculous company-wide crossovers that destroy whatever contunity the writer is trying to create (see Spider-Man). I suspect that would be the one book JMS would happily take on, if given the right offer.

That would be interesting indeed, Joe. But I'm sure that he'd need some major assurances before he'd take it on after the issues he had with them over the B5 comics.

Dang, though...I want the Book of Lost Souls back, too!

Heck, I'd be interested if JMS took on DC's Space Cabbie!

Maybe NOW, he'll get around to that B5 80-pager for Wildstorm we've been promised for what seems like eons now. (Jan, could you ask about this please this weekend?)

I'd probably give almost anything a look, with the possible exception of Captain Carrot, although that said, maybe I'd change my mind if he killed everybody off at the end of his run!

            New Comics

I'm wondering if Joe has some ideas for new comics that he's wanted to do but didn't want to do them with Marvel. I know Superman is someone he'd love to do, but I imagine it would only happen if he did a limited series without having to worry about what's happening in the rest of the DC Universe (which has crossovers pretty much through the end of the year).

Looking f orward to hearing what he'll announce at Wondercon. With the writer's strike over there's a good chance there will be some news on the TV/movie front.

Your ever-vigilant reporter will be on the spot to bring you the latest and greatest from the con.

Frulad...maybe. I've kind of set my heart on asking about BoLS but we'll see. I don't have a good feel for how big this con is. Anybody else know?

Maybe he's planning to finish the Babylon 5 Graphic Novel! *crossing fingers*

Actually getting the Rising Stars Compendium out would be nice, too.

Indeed. News on any of: the RS compendium, more Books of Lost Souls, or B5 comics/GNs, would be fantastic. I'm just getting into JMS's comic work and BoLS and Supreme Power are excellent. I'll give anything he does a try.

Although my fondest wish would be some positive news about more Lost Tales.

Hmmm.... I clearly appear to be in the minority over BoLS. Just not my cup of tea. Oh well.

I'd like to see some more Supreme Power. I think we were left hanging abit in the main series before that stupid crossover came up and now it looks as if there will be no further follow up.

                          Hey Jan,
here's the attendance figure for 2007:
Last year's event drew a best-ever 20,000 attendees, and Glanzer says he thinks there's a good chance WonderCon 2008 can top those numbers, thanks to a heightened presence of big-name stars.
                          no boom today . . .

i've had three different studios get in touch over the past week to find out if I'm going to be at the convention, ostensibly because they've all got big projects to cover, which suggests to me that it's going to be pretty big!

                              Thanks, luvb5!

Sorry you won't be here, Joe. Aw, darn (so to speak)! I should'a brought my sock puppet for JMS to autograph!
