I picked up #1 of The Twelve yesterday and liked it better than I'd expected to. I was afraid that there'd be too many characters acting too anachronistic for me to follow comfortably but if this first issue is an indication, I should be fine. Yeah, there were a lot of characters but most of them seem enough different that I won't have much trouble keeping track of who's who.
It looks like JMS's habit of showing us where we're going from the start is in play here. Even though we end up with the Phantom Reporter standing over Blue Blade with his gun drawn, I don't see any wound.
Nothing to do with the story, but I also found the answers on the 'Questions that Need Answers' page interesting, particularly Peter David and JMS's fathers telling them that they'd never make a living from SF/comics.
