  • THOR (will contain spoilers)

ok, i just read issue 1. and the writting and story was very good
i like the way he brought back Donald Blake, i like that he carries a stick instead of the hammer while he is human.
i also like the *IMPLIED* idea that all the other Asgurdians will now have human hosts like Thor. if thats where the book goes i can see some VERY interesting things comming from it, not just Loki but Frea and others
the art was VERY good by current marvel standards (this means the art was just ok by all other standards)
the idea that now that Thor has broken the Ragnarok cycle he can chose to bring asguard back(i have no doubt that it will be more involved then that, i hope anyway) and that its MAN who creats Gods not vice versa is also alot of fun.
all in all i am looking foward to the next few books

I picked up the first one today, too. Even though I don't think I've ever read anything with Thor in it, I think I'll be okay following it if it continues as it's begun. The only thing I didn't really care for was how some of the captions ran into the panels and were sometimes hard to read.

I'm also looking forward to more.

      odd, i didn't notice that
there is really a very interesting history to the thor char. JMS did a good job of touching on the Donald Blake thing in issue 1.
For awhile (a long while) thor was under a spell of odins that he would be human some of the time. if you find yourself interested ask your local comic store about some of the thor trades.
in the marvel universe of the earth based chars thor is one of the 3 to 5 most powerful chars (status changes depending on weather Phoenix is alve or dead at the time you ask) and thor has a habit of taking stances that others will not.
for example thor fought the entire rest of the avengers to protect immortus some years back because while the rest of the team saw his meddling as evil thor saw it as trying to help(i forget the whole story line) but in essense thor has always been a very moral char

and if you want a very good read with almost nothing to do with the rest of the marvel universe pick up the ragnarok cycle books(when they killed thor off) some very interesting things

So I'm in the laundrymat on my weekly ritual- reading that week's new comics while waiting for my stuff to finish. I don't even notice that there's a radio playing while I'm sitting there. I turn to the last page of the new issue of Thor when the I realize that the song on the radio is hitting its chorus- "Lightening Crashes" by Live.

        Freaky coincidence!

There's an interview with JMS in The Oklahoman about his locating Asgard in OK. Interesting about the rune stone.

Well, I just read this. I was very pleased. JMS' recent comics have been some of his best work, with this, silver surfer and the most recent ASM storyline. Very gripping stories.

Thor was much more fast paced than the usual JMS comic, with a lot less dialogue. Really quick read, but every panel mattered at the same time. I've only read the Oemig Thor right before the death of all of Asgard, and I'd suggest that for anyone who'd be interested in the character. Good stuff. I'm excited for the rest of JMS' run.

i think some of joe's humor in book 2 is likely to get a little lost on people, you have to visulize out of the frame to get some of it
