  • Silver Surfer: Requiem (spoilers)

Did anyone read this? I thought it was very well done, just got through with the first issue last night. Plotline's nice. I feel like they did a good job making this coincide with the movie relase also, involving the FF. The next issue is supposed to feature Spidey also..so I wonder if the storyline of the "surfer dying" is a metaphor for him leaving ASM and FF, with their cameos. A sorta farewell to him writing those characters? Or maybe I'm reading too much into things.

    Art's pretty too.

I enjoyed the first issue, even though I felt it was a bit sparse. I can't help thinking it might have made for a better read if it was done as a graphic novel, but that's just my opinion.

I'm sure that it's being timed to be a graphic novel for the DVD release of FF2

book 2 was pretty good, great art, but its totally outside marvel continuity, this is just going to be a very good "what if" story it seems

Just read the final one last night.

Beautifully done, both story and art. It'll be cool to see what JMS does with this character for a feature film.

I'm not optimistic, not so much about JMS who will do a sterling job, but just the sheer number of cooks that will be in that particular kitchen, including Fox executives, Marvel booses, producers, directors; each with their agendas. If you'd heard some of the behind-the-scenes stories about other Fox-related comic book films such as X3 or FF2, you'd wonder how they managed to get something on screen at all.

Oh, dear...I'd forgotten that Fox was involved. It'd be a shame for JMS to have to come up with a replacement for 'Eiben Scrood'.

After seeing the finished product, I'm not surprised!

Yes, it's a shame SS isn't one of the properties Marvel themselves don't still have. By all accounts, the upcoming Marvel Studios productions (Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk) are vastly different environments. John Favreaux (IM director) says Marvel have been so supportive and non-interfering that he feels like he's working on an independent film.

Marvel have the right idea: hire talented people with a passion for the source material and then leave them to it.

from what i understand the main issue was singer dropping out of x3. iirc it was supposed to be a much more phoenix based story that whould have ended but left a big set up for future movies
yes x3 was pretty bad and pretty good. just a little better writing would have done it
i rather enjoyed ff2, after all ff is an action movie you can't translate most of thier stories to big screen afterall. not to mention ff is a basically boring concept afterawhile anyway

give them a chance, avi arid takes a pretty hands off approch to the marvel projects from what i understand, and as for fox. well wait and see i guess. i think who ends up as director will be the biggest issue

oh and ss requiem was wonderful. so very well done. i can't wait to see whats next from jms

I've only read throug the third so far. I thought that issue really was vastly better than the first two. The first two had so little going on in them, but I still liked them. This one, the story about the two races was just really touching. He's so damn good.
