  • Friends of Lulu Hall of Fame

I just found out that Colleen Doran, illustrator for JMS's "Book of Lost Souls" (returning sometime this year), Warren Ellis's "Orbiter", Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" as well as Creator of her own "A Distant Soil", is up for a Friends of Lulu Hall of Fame award.

Now, I'm not as into Comics culture as I could be but I know enough to know that Colleen winning this would be a Good Thing. I've seen the tables for Friends of Lulu at cons, read their site being quoted regularly, and can't help but think that encouraging more women reading and creating comics would be good for the comics industry in general.

As for Colleen, I've seen her at her table at cons practically giving art lessons and really encouraging fans who are interested with sound practical advice. She's also a member here at the JMSNews.com forums and her blog has made it toward the top of my bookmarks. She's been creating comics since she was twelve and drawing professionally since she was 15.

Great artist and a heckofa nice lady. I'd love for her to win this.

      Resurrecting this thread to post:

      Friends of Lulu award Winners
We were late for the actual ceremony and missed getting any pictures, but the winners are:

Women CartoonistÆs Hall of Fame: Colleen Doran

Lulu of the Year: Abby Denson

Kim Yale Award for Best New Female Talent: Rachel Nabors

Women of Distinction Award: Jennifer De Guzman

Volunteers of the Year: MK Reed and Robin Enrico
Colleen didn't even post the fact of her nomination to her own blog so as to not appear to be trolling for votes.

      Congratulations, Colleen!
