    recent direction of the story

    Hey all, first posting here...

I only realized about 3 months ago that JMS went into comic books(yes, I had actually left the country for 3 years). I read the old Squadron supreme so when I saw "Supreme Power" in TB I picked it up almost immediately and then started getting into the monthly.

The story is classic JMS - great stuff. One thing I've always liked about JMS is how he uses his characters to "say something". In ish's 4, 5 he used Edith. Now I was predicting edith to be a little used char, but I really like the way she is being developed and it will be interesting to see where her character is being taken.

As for the other chars, I also look forward to see where they are going. Now we have some already quite well developed - esp. Hyperion, Blur, Zarda and Dr. Spec(and Nighthawk, when he fits back into the tale). But I'm looking forward to the treatment that the rest of the team gets - esp Arcanna and Emil Burbank. Arcanna hasn't gotten any development yet, but from what I've seen of Burbank, I can just tell that we're being made not to like the guy.

I find it interesting how a large portion of these "heroes" are homicidal maniacs. Blur is the only "nice guy" of the bunch so far. Looking forward to seeing how it goes.

On the bright side I do have a feel-good amazon buffy story, I'll post it in off-topic though.

Well, on Amazon there is for pre-order: "Squadron Supreme Volume 1: The Pre-War Years Premiere HC", ("This title collects "Squadron Supreme", numbered 1-6") but 22,9 EUR it is a little heavy on the pocket (I guess because it is "HC"?). It seems it comes out on 15. November 2006.

    "forced utopia"
You should try Superman: Red Son. That kind of "I know what's best for you" stuff was the core of the series, I really liked it. You can't make the people "behave" (sorry for that *g*).

    Huh?

We're talking about JMS' Squadron Supreme which is vastly different from Mark Gruenwald's Squadron Supreme.

'...leftist "forced utopia" theory.' Categorize everything, do you? It's a "What if superhumans put themselves in power and started making decisions for everyone, without anybody's input" concept/story. It's not leftist or right wing or buffalo wing.

It does draw parallels to reality. Still, it doesn't mean it's leftist.

You're 100% correct. The relaunch and the rename is all part of that.

    Yes.

Certain retailers don't order Marvel's Max imprint due to it's explicit content. So, even though it sells pretty well for an adult title, JMS knew that by adjusting his writing, without changing the tone, to fit a PG-13 kind of rating, he could get his stories into more stores, and thus more readers.

Squadron Supreme keeps getting better with each issue. IMO, JMS is in top form on Squadron Supreme. His other stuff is good, but Squadron Supreme is SWEEEETNESS on flimsy paper.

I still have a volume of best of spider man to unshrink wrap, I ordered the complete hardback of rising stars today and I'm halfway through volume two of the script books.

He's writing too much, I can't keep up.
Anyway MWNN, I'll wait for the harback trade of this before I pick it up, looks nicer on my shelf and goes with all the other books there, cheers ofr the pointers though.

I read it, but I only keep up between the trade collections they put out. Don't have the patience for single-issue. When I get caught up I'll jump in.

    started a topic Squadron Supreme

    Squadron Supreme

Hello? Anybody else reading this comic?

Issue #3 came out yesterday. Sweeeeeeet cover art.

I love how Emil keeps reminding everyone that he's the "smartest man on the planet." He's totally arrogant & obnoxious, but I still love his dialogue. I can't help but like him.
Working...
