This past week's release of Robert Kirkman's Walking Dead had not one...but two of my letters printed in the letters' column.

Posting online is cool and all, but getting printed old-fashioned style in a comic book is permanent, like. The internet is too ethereal and nebulous.

In Wizard issue #173 (March 2006) they printed a letter plus a picture of Nathan "Rock" Quarry of Ultimate Fighter reality-show fame. If you've seen the show, then you know Nate is a stand-up guy.

Three reasons why it's cool: 1) He's from Oregon, and used to shop at the same comic shop I still go to now; 2) It's good to let others see that not all comic readers are balding, overweight, mother's-basement dwellers, and sometimes drool while arguing continuity like it's a US History lecture series their headlining; and 3) Big fan of all that Ultimate Fighting stuff.

I've only had one letter ever published and it was a letter to the editor of the University Newspaper. The only reason it was printed was because they had nothing else and the bastards butchered my grammar and my spelling.

It's funny...every letter I've ever sent has been printed. Star Wars (first issue with letters of DH ongoing), Wizard (twice, I think), World of Wrestling, Arkanasas Democrat-Gazette. I believe that's all.

    Congrats, manwithnoname.

I don't think I ever had a fan letter printed anywhere except online. If your 'fanboy ecstasy' is anything like the feeling I had when JMS first answered a question of mine, though, I *absolutely* understand how you're feeling. Funny how your face gets sore from smiling so wide, huh?

    Congrats!

I remember when I had my only fan letter published- it was in an issue of Doctor Who Monthly back in 1989 or 1990...

I know what you mean; I had my first letter printed in an issue of Captain America way back in the seventies. I was so excited about it, although nobody in my family could see what all the fuss was about.

Jan, didn't know where to post this.

I wanted to share my fanboy ecstasy. In the latest Black Panther comic #14, the first letter printed in the letters' column is mine. Reggie Hudlin, and not the editor, even responded to it.

In the recent past, I've been printed once in JMS' Fantastic Four, Brubaker's Captain America, twice in Kirkman's Walking Dead!

To see one's letter and name printed in a comic is just too cool.
Working...
