  • JMS quoted in Playboy Magazine

With thanks to GkarsEye at B5TV.com who reports that the April Playboy quotes JMS several times on Comics in the latest issue.

    From Playboy.com:
Of Maus and Supermen -- Like jazz, which began as lowbrow entertainment, the comic book -- or as it's known uptown, the graphic novel -- has become a major cultural influence whose touch can be felt in Hollywood, literature and video games. If you haven't looked at comics lately, here's all you need to know about what's been happening with this distinctly American art form. By Robert Levine and Scott Alexander

See, people really do just read that magazine for the articles

It's been ages since I read an issue but I used to enjoy the cartoons a lot, too.

What with the utter lack of interest that the surgically modified, heavily airbrushed women inspire in me, yeah, the articles would be a preferable alternative within the magazine.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

When I was in grade four we had to copy poems to practice our penmanship. One of the poets we often used was Shel Silverstein. When I was older I looked up the name and was surprised that he wrote for Playboy. Is that the same person?

"Spaghetti, spaghetti, all over the place
Up to my elbows up to my face...."

          or

          "Sarah Cynthia Silvia Stout
Would not take the garbage out
She'd scour the pots and scrape the pans,
Candy the yams and spice the hams
And tho her father would scream and shout,
She simply would not take the garbage out...."

(It's sad that I memorized those poems )

Yup. After his military service, he joined Playboy in 1956 as a writer, photographer and cartoonist.

I read the article a couple of weeks ago, and, yeah, it was a great article on comics in general. I'm glad it spotlighted many great works that, hopefully, people will seek out. Nice touch: JMS quotes, of course.
"I am just a worthless liar. I am just an embecile. I will only complicate you, trust in me and fall as well. I will find a center in you; I will chew it up and leave. I will work to elevate you, just enough to bring you down. Why can't we drink forever? I just want to start this over!" TOOL
