  • Star Wreck Release Date Set

    Hi folks,

Many you you have probably seen the "Star Wreck" website and the trailers they have there (they look REALLY COOL). I got an e-mail from them on Monday stating that the release date of "Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning" is set for August 20, 2005.

Since TMoS is dead, I am looking to buy it so as to get my "B5 on TV" fix - even if it is a Star Trek / B5 parody.

Geek on. The effects work looks great, and it looks like a laugh. Count me in.

... and you'd be correct, Jan.

Star Wreck looks pretty good. Anyone know if the movie is in English or Finnish? And if it is in Finnish, are the subbies for us non-Finn speakers?

In Finnish with English Subtitiles - I think

The trailers I downloaded from their website had the actors speaking in Finnish but had English subtitles.

Hope the movie is as good as the trailers would have you believe...

My impression from the trailers was that the B5 people are the "bad guys", and "Star Trek" folks are "bumbling good guys".

H-m-m, I've just seen the trailer and special effects seems to be nice (on the same level as 1998's Crusade). However acting seems to be very amateurish, and of course the idea itself is stupid. Nay.

EDIT: And finnish is UGLY. Sorry.

The movie is being produced by a small team lead by Samuli Torssonen, supported by a large group of both amateur and professional volunteers interested in the project. As the production team is self taught, In the Pirkinning could be called an amateur movie - but we are aiming at professional standards in all aspects of the production (except acting, even though we do our best it is more or less impossible to find a cast of experienced actors for a project of this size and budget). There are clear advantages to working outside the established production machine too: working on our free time and with a limited budget brings us independence from tried and tested formulae. We are free to attempt storylines and scenes that would be considered impossible in a commercial production.
It's interesting to read the rest of that page and the FAQ.
I first tought the idea was silly, but I've warmed up to it since then. It has the potential to be a great parody of both B5 and Star Trek.
The trailer itself is already quite funny for me.

I don't expect it to be a great movie, but sometimes a silly movie that will make you laugh will do perfectly. I'm not preordering, but I'm seriously considering ordering it after it becomes available and I've read a few reviews.

From what I've seen (can't remember where, maybe in the forums at the StarWreck website) the movie will be available with Finnish and English as languages (the latter as subtitles only I assume).

As for other languages other than your own being "ugly"... that cuts both ways.

Well, I hear a lot of languages around me every day - and only 2-3 make me shudder (Finnish is one of them)

True, you haven't been shocked and awed until you have listened to a german version of say... Fawly Towers.

And John Wayne makes you blood go cold : "Hande hoch!" "Jawohl Sheriff!"

                      Priceless...

Oh, I'm downloading a trailer... 34 bleddy megabytes!

UPDATE : I kinda like it. Zany to say the least. I had the sound off and the subtitles on and it doesn't look like amateur-stuff.

My understanding is that this is a parody and those don't have the same licensing rules as other forms of copying.

Hey chill out, it's only a movie made by star trek fans... There is only one real actor named Kari Võõnõnen. Other "actors" are just big fans.. Dont take it too seriously. And original plan was that they release it only in finland but Star trek fans all around the world wanted to see this too.
