  • B5:Rangers in the UK

It seems to me some of our UK folks have said that they haven't seen Legend of the Rangers yet. I just saw on one of the UK B5 Newsgroups that it'll be on tonight at 22:00 on the SciFi channel and repeated a few times over the next few days.

Sorry for the late notice, I just now saw it.

    Hi Jan,

Yes SciFi:UK has been running the whole B5 MOVIE series. So people that have yet to seen LotR or ineed ANY B5 movie would still get the chance to catch up. Don't know what SciFi:US is like but the UK version repeats EVERYTHING ALOT!!!!!

There is one down side though....they are not being shown in full anamorphic wide screen, but rather in the 4:3 ratio, letterbox (black bars atop and bottom) format which seems kind of a shame.

I was lucky, I burned it onto DVD when it was on one of the SKY TV premium movie channels and they always play things in the correct format if available as such.

Still, it may mean that SF:UK is prepping to try and get hold of more B5, mmmm, that would be nice, BABYLON 5 back on UK television. Been too long.

Lucky, lucky, lucky! I know, I know...I've got the DVDs and I've got a tape of Rangers around here someplace but it'd be nice if I could gather 'converts' by simply pointing to when it's on instead of risking my DVDs. I mean, my sister was one thing (since she gifted me most of them. <g>) but co-workers? I lost a dailies tape from 'Z'Ha'Dum' that way once.

Up here in Canada, our "Space" station hasn't shown it at all. So needless to say I haven't seen it and my cable doesn't offer the US SF station. I have to wait until it comes out later this year.

Have you got word about a DVD release, then? I haven't...

          Hopefully,

The last time the Sci-Fi channel in the U.S. aired the B5 series was about 2-3 years ago, right when the DVD's were being released. I remember right when I was watching the second episode of Season 3, Season 5 was being shown, and the episode they had on was "A View from the Gallery". I would flip back when I paused during the chapter breaks to get a peek of Season 5.

Everytime I watch "Convictions", I'm always expecting to see Mack and Bo pop up and offer their perspective. The last B5 I saw on Sci-Fi here in the States was a repeat viewing of Legend of the Rangers. It is a shame that since B5 is available on DVD, no station is interested to pick up the re-runs. Even though I own the series, I'd still like to watch it on a TV channel.

Errr ... it hasn't been that long.

I watched the whole second half of S5 on Bravo while I was recouperating from a serious eye injury back in October/November 2004. Only six months ago. Unfortunately, just like with TNT, B5 didn't suit Bravo's audience and quickly lost its prime-time slot at 8pm, but the daytime and weekend repeats went through the entire 5 year arc at least three times back to back by my reckoning.

Granted, it doesn't get Sky's ST:TNG treatment, but it hasn't been too badly served in the UK, provided you have satellite or cable TV.

Yeah, I watched B5 on Bravo a little while back, it was about the only thing worth watching on there, even with the annoying length of commercial breaks.

I'm Soooo pleased LotR was on last night, enjoyed it thoroughly and had the feeling that it would have made an excellent TV series, probably more than Crusade did. Is there an online petition to sign, or do people feel the boat has sailed?

IMHO that boat has long sailed and there is no hope of a series.

i finally got to see it for the first time last night and apart from G`Kar i found it bit of a turkey.

i think it was definately of lower quality than Crusade ever was.

                      Rangers DVD

                      Jan..

Just a rumor, but October 24th for an R2 release. I guess R1 would be before hand.

I do think that boat has sailed. I am kind of pleased that 'Rangers' didnt get a chance to flourish. I could see its potential, but at the same time, I couldn't. plus, the thing that bothered me was that it took place in 2264, if this had became a series, and it lasted for JMS' classic goal of 5 seasons, it would have ran into the year Crusade began, 2267. I was kinda curious how that would have worked out, but after all that I have read and heard about the direction Crusade would've gone. . . I would have rather seen Crusade continued.

I think we need to get used to the idea that that probably isn't going to happen ... ever! Love to see it but, frankly, I think we were long past Crusade ever coming back even at the point that LotR was made.

The only possibilities may come through novels or other "sidelines", but TV? No chance.

I've not yet seen Crusade at all. However, I'm not going to write off surprises. Back when I was in college, there was this show I liked called "Family Guy". One of the funniest shows I've watched. After 3 years it was cancelled. Then Cartoon Network picked up the series, ratings soared. The series was then released to DVD. Shortly after, Fox then picked up Family Guy again for more new episodes, which put on hold a Family Guy movie.

So if it can work for a friggin cartoon, I'm not going to write off Crusade. However, given the fact that only half a season exists, and it's been 7 years, it'd be a bigger surprise if something came up.
