Speaking of the good slip covers vs the bad cardboard ones...

I got the B5 DVD's in the cardboard ones with the plastic folding trays. I got the 1st Season BSG with individually covered DVD's.

Will the B5 by chance be re-released with the individually covered DVD's, and if so, will we be able to buy just the packaging? I would prefer it to what I have right now, as I believe it would have a much longer shelf (and hand) life.

Well that is just typical of WARNER BROTHERS that the press release is wrong. I suspect that they just used the left over copy from CRUSADE as that is in 1.33:1 (4:3) ratio. The actual transfer is in glorious anamorphic 1.78:1 (16:9). However, the bit about 5.1 audio is correct, though you'd never guess that from the DVD sleeve itself as there (as stated in my other post) the audio is described as 2.0 stereo only. Visually, the transfer is quite good though, with warm (non-bleeding) reds, cool blues and solid, distortion-free blacks.

Aside from that there is nothing. No trailer, no background info, no actor commentary - we all knew there would be no JMS commentary, but that didn't mean that the cast couldn't do with a few extra dollars for a commentary (pause for hollow laughter).

I don't know if they are still available, but at B5TV.com there was an announcement that there were alternate covers and a link to a company that sold plastic DVD cases. I converted my collection and retired the cardboard to a pretty display.

Search B5TV.com for "alternate covers" and see what you turn up. Personally, I like the look.
I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in the station, when it is quiet, and just listen. After a while, you will hear the echoes of all our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Long after we are gone .. our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit .. that the part of me that is going .. will very much miss the part of you that is staying.

I just got it today, and it looks great (both cover and the movie itself). Like everyone else I would have loved to hear a commentary from someone, especially JMS, but I guess we'll have to do with the movie.

Now that all of B5 is out on DVD the wait/hope for something more will be even greater. I hope this isn't the end of what we'll see televised from that universe.

It's *still* not listed anywhere I can find for a Region 1 release! The pictures I've seen of the cover really are nice, though.

For those looking at the artwork linked to above, it is worth pointing out that that the actual physical packaging does have a big Babylon 5 logo at the top, just like the season and movie sets.

Looks superb ... much better than the VHS cover.

                  Covers - alternate

Probably been on here before ---

                  http://www.rixgrafix.com/index_068.htm

Nice Covers -- The Cases are cool as well as I ordered them for other items (I am fine with the original covers).

The site tells you where to get 4-10 disk cases...

Any word on the extras? Can we hope for JMS commentary after the Crusade incident?

Nope. When I asked about it he said he'd only do a commentary for Rangers if they went back and replaced his original Crusade commentary. At that time he rated the chances of that happening someplace between slim and none.
