the Universal Box looks sweet! I hope Legend of the Rangers comes to DVD in the US soon.

When the title first crossed my path, I could, like most people, only speculate on what it could be about. my best guess was a history of the Rangers as told by one of the main characters from B5 (lennier, Delenn, maybe Marcus ) taking the story back to Valen and using a few tie-ins from various movies/episodes clips and footage from the seasons. then moving on to the future of their use after B5 and/or Crusade and eventually leading to "The Deconstruction of Falling Stars".

Although the Movie is at the bottom of my list in terms of favorite, it is still a piece of Babylon 5 and it will sit aside my other much apreciated DVDs.

Here is a good question. While its understandable that you cant really put the movie collection of Babylon 5 in the places of the series that you so desire without rearranging the discs in the season sets, where would you put Legend of the Rangers? I personally will put it before crusade because of Timeline issues, and that is how my DVDs are placed . . . it still is kind of a debate as to where it will go, but would you put it in terms of when it was released? or by timeline in the story?

    Lotr and Universal set

You may all want to try 101cd.com. There are postage and package fees but from what I can tell they ship all over the world. I noticed this one the other week for sale on Play.com but 101cd.com seems the cheapest so far for europe and the rest of the world. Release date is the 24/10/05 (same as Lotr over here) and if you preorder some places will deliver by the 24th.

Its my birthday this month so guess what I'm getting , you guessed it the universal set as long as everything goes okay. Fingers crossed.

Has anyone heard about the Babylon 5: The Complete Universe Box Set? I saw it at Play.com today (since I've mentioned Play a few times in this thread, let me just state that I am only a normal B5 fan, and in no way whatsoever do I work for play, or earn any money from anything that has to do with this ).

"This mamoth of a box set contains the Babylon 5 Seasons 1-5 (please see individual box sets for episode listings), all the Babylon 5 films and Crusade Season 1.

    The Babylon 5 films comprise:

    -Legend Of The Rangers

    -The Gathering

    -In The Beginning

    -Third Space

    -Call To Arms

    -River Of Souls

For synopsises please see individual titles.

This box set truly is the ultimate for any Babylon 5 fan, packaged in a luxury box and containing an exclusive Babylon 'universe' poster.

    Special Features
    Exclusive Babylon 'universe' poster."

Edit: Here it is at Amazon.co.uk as well. It's actually cheaper at Amazon, by about รบ10, although that sum will be reduced by a little bit when ordering, since Amazon has shipping costs (unlike play).

Is there a market for this though? I think most of us have probably bought the majority (or all) of the previous DVD releases already, and those who haven't probably aren't interested in buying such a large and expencive set. Still great though, if someone buys this set as the first DVD's they have bought from B5, they will have a lot of hours of joy ahead of them.

Whilst certainly far from being my favourite B5 movie (that is a tie between ITB and 3rdS), I too have re-watched LotR recently and...well, I don't know if it is just me getting used to it but it really does kind of grow on you. Sort of.

Its lack of consistency from the rest of the series HAS NOT, however, stoppped me fromm pre-ordering the title from www.play.com as all I have at the moment is the copy I burned on to DVD off one of the SKY MOVIES channels. The picture quality is excellent so technically I don't really need to buy it as such, but I am a sad completist so there you have it.

As a coment from a seasoned play.com customer, they do indeed provide excellent service to us in the UK. Some times some packages DO get stopped in customs and required a payment of tax to retrieve them (VAT at 17.5%) most do indeed get through OK and if pre-ordered well in advance, get to us even before the official release dates (from both R1 and R2 catalogues). Also, just recently, some of our orders went missing - eventually tracked to a postal worker with sticky fingers! - but play.com refunded our money without question! Not bad really.

    Sigh...well, JMS answered my question:

Probably the Amazon date is closer, since they just had me approve the
cover art and copy. (Rewrote the back copy completely.)

I told them that I would only be willing to do a commentary if they
went back and revised the Crusade commentary to restore the material
    they deleted without telling me.

So I'd say the odds were somewhere between slim and none.

I like the idea that there are other groups out there that we hadn't run into yet. It keeps the mystery up; and it is a big galaxy after all. Who knows, maybe one of the groups is some alien force from outside the galaxy that in the past has tried to swoop into the galaxy and conquer it some long time ago.

Mind my age before you condemn my forgetfulness, ok?
I don't think so, but I don't think it's forgetfulness on your part. JMS said at the Hawthorne Comic con last year:

Audience: I had and argument with a friend of mine about this whole thing in 'To Live and Die in Starlight' about whether the 'white hand' was actually something you had thought of, was in the chronology back when you started B5? I was like, "He planned everything, it must be." So even though it's the sole reference to the white hand I'm wondering if they had been there all along in your mind or was it created when you wrote it?

JMS: There was a group that I'd (something) and I figured one more (something) to Tolkein couldn't hurt too much. There are a number of groups that you haven't heard from at all, I haven't had a chance to get there yet.

Audience: You actually had them there all along or at least some sense of them.

JMS: Yeah. You have to. You have to work out the history in great detail in either direction. It's like, for all those years the Europeans didn't know about the people in South America until they finally met up and that intersection caused great change. So I try and implement that kind force of history thing.
So it sounds to me as though the Hand was/were around long before the Thirdspace artifact came back into our universe.
