  • I've created two new B5'ers!!

I arranged a viewing of Midnight on the Firing line for two of my friends Saturday night, and they're now hooked on the series. I've never done any real "missionary" work when it came to B5, so it was fun to introduce new people to the five year arc. I'm looking forward to guiding them through the other 109, plus the movies and Crusade.

MotFL was really good. Not many series have such a great first episode.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

My theory is they worked plenty of their rough spots out on the pilot movie.

Hehe, I too, am on a mission to enlarge the B5 flock. I even got my grandmother onboard, and we've gotten through most of the series now and approaching mid S5. I'm currently trying to decide how to wrap up the viewing experience, if to show the remaining movies (I know the timeline for them, already done Thirdspace and In The Beginning), and if to show ACTA/Crusade before or after Sleeping in Light. Or shall I not bother with Crusade?

And yep, you read that right, grandmother. She's about 78, but always been a sci-fi follower.

Huh! I feel like a slacker. My last B5 conversion was almost 2 and a half years ago!

Very cool! I'm currently taking a bunch of college kids through season 3 (see my posts on rastb5m for details).

Great. I've done this for many years now. I've even seen some of my Trekkie fans totally convert!!

The best two that I've managed over time has to be firstly my mum. Her Sunday nights in front of the box were ruined when Channel 4 first moved B5 to the 6pm slot. She hated it! For weeks, I'd see her walk into the lounge and quickly about face and disappear for an hour. Then I told her that it had got a new Captain (aka Bruce Boxlietner) and I think she fell in love LOL After that, she got to laugh at Lennier & Vir's banter and followed the love of Delenn & Sheridan - at one point she turned to my dad and said to him 'why weren't you ever that romantic??' Classic.

The second has to be my partner Tom, he knows of my love for sci-fi especially all things Babylon 5 and I thought I'd start from the Deconstruction of Falling Stars. the reason being, he's very intuitive and what better episode than this to show the significance of one station and a group of people to change the future to get his mind going. He's now starting to watch the first season after the special edition of The Gathering (which is my personal favourite out of the two versions).

              Let's keep it going
Someone reading these words, or watching B5 during its run, will find something here that will become a part of him or her.

As they grow up, the words of G'Kar, the plight of Londo, the destiny of Delenn and the sacrifice of Sheridan will take root, and the stories they told will filter through, and one day, that person will create their own show, tell their own story, will fight to preserve their passion against overwhelming odds and change the face of science fiction fandom forever.

Yeah, and he's left us all on tenterhooks waiting to hear if heads exploded when he showed them 'Severed Dreams' over a week ago. We're waitinnggg!

I haven't had a new convert for over a year, unfortunately.

It's hard to convert people... Especially younger people who just care about special effects quality. Some people are just too impatient and not "open-minded" enough to appreciate B5, especially in it's early days when things were a bit iffy in places (if your a new viewer, it certainly seems that way). Ofcourse I'm not talking about everyone, just the stereotype teenager, for example.

My wife was VERY reluctant to watch B5. Although she was an avid comic fan, and had often raved over jms' work in the Spiderman genre, she was still most difficult to bring in to the B5 fold.

Finally, I orchestrated a trade. I would read all of the Robert Jordan books in the Wheel of Time saga if she would watch the B5. I did, she did, and she bawled like a baby at Sleeping in Light.

The kind of compromises we make in a marriage. I need to find out something to get her back with since she also got me to read all the Harry Potter books and got me hooked on CSI. I'm thinking.....Jenna Jameson???

I just gave a good friend season one to watch while she's home sick. She wants season two tomorrow, and she hasn't even complained about Londo's hair.
