    Help !

Should I buy the R1 or the R2 movie dvd boxset?

R1 seems to have all 5 movies while R2 just has 3. Does the R2 have diffrent extras or are the WB just screwing over us euro fans?

    Apreciate any help.

    Cheers.

    Oh yes...as usual.

Get the R1 version - it has all 5 movies in it, all with commentaries. The best you can get in R2 is 3 movies with commentaries, and 2 individual releases with no extras at all.

I recommend buying from Loaded247.com where you can get the R1 set for ú29.99 including postage, and so far they have not screwed me over with customs charges. Here's a direct link:

It's one of the best sets, actually. They've got pretty much everything right this time--for once!

You could also pick up Crusade while you're there, also for ú29.99:

I hope that answers your questions!

Not to mention, that in R2 "The Gahering" is available only in original form and not as 1998 re-release (US movie pack has 1998 one).

        Cheaper DVD's

        Hello,

you can find cheaper B5 Movies DVD on DVD Pacific. The price including postage there for a member (costs nothing to become one) is $48.53 (ú25.74). I have ordered from them and didn't had any problems. They send the package as coming from private individual and should not get stuck in customs...

For Crusade, you might check out Axel Music. Their price (which already includes postage) is ú26.99.

The best place to buy B5 all 5 seasons is DeVoteD DVD in Australia. In March the price for each season including postage is $AU60.61 (ú25.27).

Wrong. It is only available in the original form in Germany. In England, only the Special Edition has been released.

No, it's not. Before "The Gathering" was released in Germany, the only available Version in the UK was the Special Edition. Then, a mistake during packaging happened: Some german DVD's included the Special Edition, but without a german soundtrack. In return, some of the german discs ended up in the english DVD sets. But it was NEVER planned to release the old version in the UK and until that mistake, the Special Edition was the ONLY Version available in the UK, and it is still the "right" version. If you bought the UK-DVD and got the old version (with german soundtrack), then you just happened to catch one of the wrong packaged discs.

My version does not have any German soundtrack and it is 1993 barebones one. Really!

The version of "The Gathering" I bought about a year ago, in the UK, is the original edit with an English soundtrack. So it seems that - for maybe even a very brief time - both versions have been available in R2.

In identical packaging. Which is why I didn't rely on the fact that Amazon would send me the re-edited version - because they would give me no further information - and got it from e-bay instead.

So on my shelf I have both versions of the gathering, in R2, with an English soundtrack and exactly the same covers as each other. I'm on Alex's side if there's a fight...

My version of The Gathering includes the rare Chewbacca cameo. Honest.

Did you learn nothing from B5? Never start a fight, but always finish it!

Honestly, I'm really confused now. I bought the UK DVD myself because they released the Special Edition over there. Why they would mix both versions during their release is beyond me. The only explanation would have been that they made a mistake and took the german discs - anyway, I'm glad I got the new version, it's just so much better.

But good to know that the UK-DVD's are kind of mixed - so when someone askes me where to get the Special Edition of the Pilot, I better do not recommend the UK-DVD, but the Movie Set. So thanks and sorry!

Well, I can do you one better. I have my boxsets on order from here at the moment for only ú16.99 per season (1-4) which I think is fantastic. It's certainly persuaded me to make the move from my old VHS copies to DVD.

The only thing is they e-mailed me saying my order is delayed at the moment. I'll let you know how it goes.

Also interesting to note they are listing a new package with all five seasons and the R2 (three movies) boxset all for ú129.99. I would have ordered this but I'm still hoping for an R2 version of the five movies like the R1 version. (much like many others here)

Call me crazy, but I'm thinking on purchasing second copy of whole "Babylon 5" (including all the movies) for the single purpose: hook my friends on it!

The only thing that stops me (yet) is that I could possibly keep second copy for only myself (for safety and backup reasons)

Then again, now I have two copies of "The Gathering" and "In The Beginning" - so I can use them as hooks. Not "The Gathering" probably (I have two copies, but one is original cut, and another is 1998 cut - and I want to keep both for historical reasons), but original barebones R2 "In The Beginning" will be enough I hope.
