  • Pre-B5 stories

    Hey guys/gals/androgenous beings,

Am I alone here or would you like to see some pre B5 stories involving the characters. For example:

G'kar was more warrior in nature, but he had an underlying passion that he was fighting only because he had to.

Londo was basically a product of position and family power who was going nowhere because he lacked a passion to actually do something.

Delenn was fiercely devoted to the teachings of Valen, possibly seeing her love for Dukhat.

Sheridan was a true leader though he hadnot been put through the fire of the BlackStar incident.

Garibaldi was in a depression and in the bottle due to the loss of his friend, but he was still a top-notch security guy.

If you can think of other possibilities, spill them..

If you think this idea sucks, explain why..I love a good debate.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against such power, governments, and kingdoms, and conquerors cannot stand.

Actually, I'd love to learn more about the various characters' backgrounds and significant development years. Probably best as short stories or novels so they could really focus. I think some early background on Sinclair could be fascinating, too. Number One could have some real interesting stories in her past given Mars' history of revolts and riots. There's an impossible amounbt of potential in the pre-history.

I have always wanted to see something about pre-Earth Minbari civilization. In particular the character and actor portraying DuKhat could be a well-spring for some good stories. But the original actor would HAVE to play the part. He is what made that character come alive.

It feels strangely distasteful to demand original actors in the parts they created. There should be no question of it within the B5 universe because the original casting was so well done.

I would also like to see more about Jeffrey Sinclair, again with the orignal actor Michael O'Hare in the part.

I would like to know more about Vorlons and Shadows - The Early Years. We all know how they ended up, but what about how they started and some of the other 'mistakes' the Vorlons (or Shadows) made.

I would like to see more Minbari life in general set during the Earth Minbari War and what ordinary minbari thought of their war with the humans or a story on Dukhat.

And not only them... What about the race that had built the great machine?
How about the future? When did humans learned to "ascend" (take the form of pure energy)? Is this what happend to the Shadows and Vorlons?

                Hi all. B5 History?

I'd like to see some more story developed about the Mars (food) riots people refer to in the series. I know Sheridan was there, Garibaldi and Lita all were stationed on Mars, in later episodes Sheridan was credited with putting down the riots.

Spirit had a good point about the History of the Vorlons and Shadows, although it may dispell some of the mystique that made those races so great. Maybe a good compromise would be to tell the story about how the Vorlons visited earth and seeded the telepath gene in human history, maybe put a side note about how the vorlons came across Jack the Ripper...... (remember that one?) The history of the great machine would be a good movie I would think too.

Of course the great Shadow/Vorlon war where they stole B4 would be a real good story also.

Just found these boards, great content here all. Good Job.

These are all good ideas though you all do realise that posting them here they will almost certainly never be seen anywhere else.

Actually, I've been keeping an eye on things and I don't think the things mentioned are specific enough to qualify as story ideas. Mentioning things that we know happened and wanting to see that story isn't a story idea. Getting down to details and wondering what would happen if Character A and Character B went off and did Thing C is a story idea. It's a very thin line sometimes.

I've always wanted to see something about the Dilgar War. That's always been kinda vague to me.

                        Technologies!

I'd like to see some development in the field of technologies. There are so many turns there!

                        It worked nicely for SG

I agree. There could be some good stuff in the Dilgar War, though it might not interest JMS because it ended up being TOO much "good guys versus bad guys" and so lacking that "human heart at conflict with itself" element.

Good material for the less nuanced writers to expand on in a novel under JMS direction, though.
I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in the station, when it is quiet, and just listen. After a while, you will hear the echoes of all our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Long after we are gone .. our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit .. that the part of me that is going .. will very much miss the part of you that is staying.

Yeah, Grumbler, I would like to know a little about what went on during Dilgar. It seemed like we only mention it in pasing.

BTW, did we ever learn about the reason for the bombing of San Francisco?

San Diego. And no, we're only told that terrorists got hold of a nuclear weapon and blew the place up. Since it happened the better part of 100 years ago, it is not really a "live" issue at the time of the series, and whatever "reason" there may have been probably involved issues and groups that have long since ceased to exist.

Which is also almost the case with the Dilgar War, really. The war was fought when Sinclair's father was an active pilot. It marked the emergence of the Earth Alliance as a major power and a military and political player among the younger races, but it stands in relation to the events of the later Shadow War about where WWI stands in relation to the Cold War.
