  • The first mistake

In the movie "Third Space", leeta alexander speaks about the "first mistake, the one from which all others arise, the error of pride". She (or actually the left over programming in her) speaks about those who came through this new gate and how powerfull they were, and that they created an army from within the vorlons re that is ready to fight and die for them.

She also speaks that those affected by the aliens dropped into hyper space before the vorlons were able to find them and deal with them.

I always wondered what happened to those "corrupted vorlons", some times I even suspect that they becamse one of the dark forces that traveled the galaxy

It would also be nice to see a movie and read a novel about that battle between the vorlons and the other race

She said the controlled Vorlons dropped the gateway artifact into hyperspace, not that those Vorlons themselves went into hyperspace in effort to get away from normal Vorlons.

My guess is that once the Vorlons were out of range of the artifact, they reverted to normal similarly to how the people on Babylon 5 returned to normal once the artifact was gone.

OTOH if any of the afflicted Vorlons did end up going "elsewhere", they could have become known as "The Hand" and troubled others.

Never thought of the hand as that. It would make sense, seeing as they were banished....

        Good spot.

            1. The great mistake. My guess would have to be the creation of Telepaths.

            2. As for the Hand....

Didn't Leta also say something about only one of many mistakes? I can't quote it exactly now, but I'm pretty sure she said something near the end of her "memory trace" about the Thirdspace device being only one of many mistakes. I'd like to know about some of the others!

"One mistake. One mistake out of so many, so many others." is what she says at the end when she's in the "dome" looking out at the stars.

You are right she was speaking about the artifact, thanks.

This is what I loved about B5 which is the possiblity of having new ideas that could create new novels or movies so the legend can continue, and with those new ideas I am sure there will be creativity. Because and Frankly in the other sci fi series I used to hate the repetative and structured look of everything- I do nt want to mention other series and say what I did not like about them here. But the only one sci fi that I liked besides B5 was star gate but even this one at certain point it started going into loops and we started seeing the main characters dying and reborn and dying and reborn again and again, and the ideas were a repeating from other series with lettle extras in it.

This very topic is why I've always defended LOTR and JMS on what stories were and still are to be told. Never judge anything JMS does, especially in the B5 'verse, at face value. You'll get blindsided if you do. I believe G'Kar said it best, "Nothing and no one here is exactly as he seems." Or something like that...I'm at work and can't look it up.

That one trance for Lyta gave us all a small glimpse of just how many stories there are still to tell. And let us never forget that JMS has the B5 'verse planned out 1000 yrs. in either direction in detail...and a million years in either direction to a great extent.

Everything has a purpose....even the soon to be events of TMoS.
