    Television Movies

Its been reported that all 5 television movies and a short lived B5 series. 13 episodes. (Which I cant remember the name of at this moment) will be coming to dvd in early 04. I have not heard of any info on extras yet. I am still trying to collect the B5 seasons 1-5. I pickup season 3 this week. Awesome show.

From the moderated newsgroup November 30, 2003:

Oh, yeah... and next year you can expect two new DVD sets that a) include all of the TV movies in one package (with commentaries from me on "The Gathering" and "In the Beginning") and b) package all 13 of the Crusade episodes into one box.

        jms
In a subsequent post JMS mentioned that the Legend of the Rangers pilot would be released separately, since it isn't considered a part of the original series the way the other TV movies are. There has been no other information regarding the TV movie release(s) since the November posts.

Found it amusing that anybody coming to this site of all places should need to ask. Doesn't anybody go to the current month from the main page and read JMS's recent posts? You'd think a subject line like "Update" would get folks' attention.

...will be coming to dvd in early 04.
JMS's note doesn't indicate when in 2004 this will happen, but we know that all of Crusade and most of the TV movies take place after S5 (2262), so it seems unlikely they'll be released on DVD before the final season. Since we already know that the R1 release date for S5 is April, and that there has recently been a gap of 3 to 4 months between B5 releases, the smart money says whatever follows S5 will arrive in July, and the last set may not be released until October.

        P.S.

When asked if A Call to Arms would be released in the TV movie set or the Crusade set , he said, "That will be in the set.", which didn't exactly clear the matter up.

I suspect that it will be in the movie set, because it was the last B5 adventure and the main character was Sheridan. Although it sets up the background for the first season of Crusade and introduces the Excalibur, ACtA is not a "pilot film" in any sense.

(For one thing, TNT had already bought Crusade as a series, so the movie wasn't a sales tool, as pilots are by definition, and the movie only featured two of the regular characters from the series - neither of them the series lead.)

A pilot, again by definition, is a sample story designed to show what the series will be like from week to week. ACtA does not qualify as a sample episode of Crusade.) Finally stripping ACtA out of the TV movie set would leave it "light" -only 4 movies, two of which most fans already own. From a marketing standpoint they'd be better off putting ACtA (generally considered one of the best TV movies after ItB in the movie set than bundling it with the Crusade episodes.) But I could be wrong. We'll just have to await further updates from JMS.

        Regards,

        Joe

Sell the old disc on eBay before too many people find out about the upcoming boxed set?

(You'd be surprised how many people buy DVDs but don't keep up with the industrry news. Folks are constantly unloading movie-only discs for near full price six months before a planned special edition is released.)
