Hi there! My name is Alex and I'm reading this web-site quite for a while and finally I decided to join the community
A couple of word about my previous Babylon 5 (and related) experience:
I was hooked on the series during the debut airing of seasons 1-3 in Russia during 1996-1997.
Actually that was not the first time I saw something about the series - I remember that I saw the article about "Babylon 5" in some Italian TV guide in 1995, when I visited Rome and Venice as tourist. But I do not understand Italian, so I was just impressed by photo of Na'Toth
Anyway, I watched the series starting from "Infection" (IMHO the worst episode in the whole series, but I somehow survived it and continued viewing). Probably I was lucky, that Russian station (TV-6) shown episodes very quickly (3 per week), so in several months I got to see almost 3 seasons.
However there was a catch: THE BASTARDS DID NOT SHOW "Shadow Dancing" AND "Z'ha'dum"!!!! Can you imagine this? I wasn't online back then and there was no articles about end of B5 in the press - so I thought that B5 was completely over! I literally got ill because of that incomplete ending...
But a week later a friend of mine told me, that I can probably find something about Babylon 5 on that new thing called Internet
And I did. I managed to find Lurker's guide and I was so happy to know that the show's not over and there are two more seasons!
Funny, but that was really my first time online and I got hooked, I got interested in Internet - so I started learning everything about it and computers in general. 8 years later I work full-time as software developer and my work even took me in another country (Germany)!
B5 changed my life forever...
I will skip the next few years, because TV-6 was very slow to show the remaining series (see:
they shown season 5 at the end of year 1999 though!).
Once again funny, but I got to work at TV-6 several years later! It was not funny though that TV-6 partly repeated the fate of ISN... it was closed by current Russian regime (yes, personally including our Clark - aka Putin). It was closed in 2002, somehow managed to relaunch several months later and was finally shut down in June 2003 because of purely political reasons
(I was there until the last seconds of broadcasting and still miss it greatly). Unfortunately I see no Sheridan for Russia to save...
Two months after TV-6 shut down I left Russia and moved to Germany, where I currently live (and actually plan to move to UK this year).
But enough about bad things, back to B5!
After a year in Germany (I had to recreate my home from the very beginning - afterall, I had only one suitcase with clothes when I came there) I finally got to Babylon 5!
In November 2004 I got Seasons 1-4 on DVD (R2) + "The Gathering" + "In The Beginning". Ah, what a bliss! I watched 4 episodes a day, daily...
Dunno why season 5 was delayed in UK until January (Are there any changes compared to US release? Did they added all those "u"s and replaced all "center"s by "centre"s in the inserts), but I just got a notification that it was sent to me on Saturday by Amazon UK, so I'm feeling that it's getting closer! Finally!
