  • Phase II - The 'Buck' Stops at Warner Brothers!

As I've mentioned in other posts, it appears that there's a deadline looming regarding Babylon 5: The Memory of Shadows. Originally I thought we might have until the 17th when the studio executives return to work but I now hear that it's to be Monday, January 10.

Several other fans have joined in the effort and we've come up with a 'Phase II' plan to show TPTB that the fans are eager to 'put our money where our mouths are'.

Very soon you'll be seeing the following Press Release:

The æBuckÆ stops at Warner Brothers

Fans today unveiled the second phase of their effort to convince Warner Brothers to cast the original actors from the popular five year television series in the upcoming movie ôBabylon 5: The Memory of Shadowsö

On the KeepB5Alive site (www.keepb5alive.com) are links to æBabylon BucksÆ which fans are urged to print and send to Warner Brothers at:

    Warner Brothers Film Development Department
    4000 Warner Boulevard
    Burbank, CA 91522

Fans are urged to send this message right away -- whether they've written before or not -- as the studio execs are now returning to work after the holiday break. Send the message to the decision makers at Warner Brothers is that the fans are willing -- even eager! -- to put their money where their mouths are.
    ------------end-----------

That pretty much says it all. We're pinpointing the effort toward the Burbank address because we feel that that's where the decisions will be made.

I urge you all, go to the website *now*. Choose one or more 'Bucks' and print them according to the instructions. Don't worry if you don't have color, pretty much any printer will print greyscale so the details won't be lost. Use the bucks to tell WB that you'll see the film many times, buy the DVDs-basically make it worthwhile for them to make a *good* movie. Be sure to include your information and a personal plea or they're just so much pretty scrap paper.

I can't stress enough that time is short! We've already covered all the pros and cons and I'm still convinced that no harm to the project can come from fans expressing their support.

    Thanks,
    Jan

For what it's worth, in addition to the sending of the 'bucks', I had another approach. Here is what I wrote to them...and I did so on an oversize postcard:

I just had to write to thank you for bringing back the wonderful cast of Babylon 5 to do a full length motion picture. Can't wait to see Bruce Boxleitner, Mira Furlan, Peter Jurasik, Bill Mumy, Jerry Doyle, Andreas Katsulas and the rest. So sorry that it came to late for Richard Biggs, and is there anyway that Jason Carter might return ? His character's body was left in stasis so maybe they could have some baddie get the death penalty and transfer his life's force to Marcus ? Think of all the angst !!
It sure will bring out all the old fans and is bound to make new ones as well. Hope you have the success that Paramount had when they brought Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the bridge crew of the Enterprise to the big screen.

This gives them praise for doing something that evidently that aren't sensible enough to do on their own.

Jan: Is there a faster way of sending these? Like an e-mail address. Even if I mail it out tomorrow from where I am it won't get there until the 12th or 14th. I would like to do my part but mail from Canada can take longer than my sending something to another city up here.

Ooof. Quicksilver, this pretty much guarantees that your letter will be resealed and returned to you. You can't send story ideas to a studio; they _must_ reject them, otherwise they risk legal repercussions.

Babylon1122, postal letters are taken much more seriously in campaigns such as this. E-mail is too easy to fake (i.e. one person could just send a zillion e-mails from what looks like a zillion different addresses). Don't worry about time from here to Canada; if you send via airmail, which costs a few cents more, it'll be here in about a week. It only takes that long from the UK, so probably it's even faster from Canada!

I think Warner Bros. is going to be AWASH in Babylon 5 Bucks in about a week or so!

I wish somebody had found a way to work a picture of the Crusade cast in there, or a Galen/Peter Woodward version on the http://www.fjordstone.com/b5/ page.

I so don't know which of the various buck letters to pick. I'm kinda stuck between Delenn, G'Kar, and Londo.

I added "and/or Crusade." to the http://www.fjordstone.com/b5/ text.

              "...starring the original cast
members of Babylon 5 and/or Crusade."

I matched it perfectly for font, point size, and text color.

I'm also trying to put together one with a pic of Galen, and one of http://www.keepb5alive.com/b5bucks.htm with both the Babylon 5 and Crusade casts.

The latter is going to be tough since the magic wand selector in my Photoshop is damned near useless for this. Looks like I'm going to have to do this the slow, painstaking way (freehand mask tool and then add or delete pixels). Ugh! No time for this.

Excellent. And while you were doing that I made two more of Galen (different poses than the one you used), and one with the combined casts.

If you email me at the addy I included in the PM, I'll send 'em to you, so you can apply the "Faith Manages" part.

I just want to take a brief pause to thank EVERYONE who has contributed greatly to helping us in the Babylon 5 fandom fight to keep Babylon 5 being the truest form of the story that jms has to tell us. It takes a considerable degree of dedication and love for people to do what many of you have done for the rest of us in helping us prepare to express our desires to Warner Bros. We are in your debt. Thank you for all your help!!!

BTW is there any reason why we can't send more than one. Only one needs the message. It could add up to a lot of bucks.

Mind you it's too bad we as fans don't have enough money so we could make an offer to buy the rights to B5. Then we could make it the way we wanted to. With JMS at the helm of course having the last say.

What one of my friends is doing is printing all of them and folding his letter around all of the loose Bucks hopefully causing a shower of credits and million dollar bills when they open it. *exactly* the image we want to present!

                          A very pleasant dream, huh?

I wonder how many $ it would take. Interesting thought though.

BTW I will be sending as many as my printer can print before running out of ink.

Dunno. But JMS said that he'd tell us about movie making the same way he told us about TV making so hopefully we'll find out.
