Babylon 5 Movie Starts Filming in April

Source: Production Weekly December 8, 2004

Steven Beck will direct a big screen adaptation of the popular sci-fi TV series Babylon 5. The movie, titled The Memory of Shadows, is intended for theatrical release and was written by series creator J. Michael Straczynski. Production Weekly reports that the project starts filming this April in the UK.

In "Shadows," the technology of the ancient and extinct Shadow race is being unleashed upon the galaxy by an unknown force, and Earthforce intelligence officer Diane Baker, whose brother was recently killed in a mysterious explosion, it out to find out who is behind the intergalactic conspiracy.

Joining her is Galen, a techno-mage who has been charged with keeping the technology out of the hands of those who would abuse it.

Would've been faster, except I had to recover from my head exploding after reading the news.

Yeah, they're not "extinct." They just left the area.

It's debatable...IMHO yes. They went beyond the rim. One interpretation to that is they died (remember Lorien speech in Sleeping in Light and Into the Fire).

In reply to post in other thread

most certainly not, since JMS has repeatedly said, that he would give a role to everyone who were in the series.
JMS said something similar 6-7 years ago when B5 was in production. Times change, views change.

I think realistic "benchmark" for TMoS would be A Call to Arms - it had Sheridan, Garibaldi as main character and Zack, Lochley as little cameos. I think TMoS will be something similar.

What concerns me about this article is that no source of information is mentioned. Anybody know anything about Production Weekly?

Don't count on it too heavily, Ranger. The Shadows went beyond the Rim. A lot of their technology remains, though and we saw from the unfilmed Crusade scripts that somebody wanted to develop it.

I was wondering that, too, and even more I was wondering if this is "official" enough that JMS' hands can be untied. I hope, I hope, I hope...
