  • Crusade question

    Hi everyone,

I have seen only 2 episodes of Crusade and I know the DVD will be released soon and I know it was never completed so I have one question to ask. I've searched this forum but I have not found what i'm looking for. I believe most of you guys have seen Crusade till the end, so what I wanna know is did JMS sum it all up in the end? Does it end with a big question? As long as it is an ending similar to B5 season 5, i wouldnt mind purchasing the DVD.
With an ending like that I can live with but if Crusade ended abruptly.....then i'd wonder if its really worth the buy.

so please let me know cos I'm itching to place my order.....hopefully....

Short answer: No. It was canceled and no ending was planned.

But i think last episode in original airing order ("Each Night I Dream of Home") had quite nice closure.

Sorry to disappoint you, but no. The original order was for 22 episodes but the production was shut down twice. Once ended up with the new (black) uniforms and new sets but the second one was the end. There were even 3 scripts completed that never got filmed.

That said, well...I mean, you know that the cure *was* found because we saw Franklin in Sleeping in Light and he was on Earth after B5. If you just think of it in terms of being a space adventure rather than the added layer that being B5 brings (beginning, middle and end), I think you won't be disappointed.

Someday, some way, I have faith that JMS will let us in on what we missed in the Crusade story. In fact, some of it may be in The Memory of Shadows. JMS indicated as much at the Hawthorne con, anyway.

No. The story is not over.

Assuming the order on the discs is the same as JMS's Sci-Fi Channel order, it ends with "Appearances and Other Deceits" with Gideon dictating letters of condolences to the families of the dead crewmen, and that's one of the better endings that I've ever seen. Very poignant. Gary Cole did a great job there, and the music was perfect.

Actually, Crusade Season 1 ends with "End of the Line" (the last of the unfilmed scripts), and THAT ends on a CLIFFHANGER.

Basically, the story isn't ended. It's to be continued in the future. JMS is going to do that one way or another (B5:TMoS, novels, and who knows what else.). With the Crusade DVD Set, you're buying the FIRST part of the story.

Buying the first part of the story can only aid us getting the rest of the story.

The B5 story is finished, but there will always be room for more stories to be told in the B5 universe, though perhaps not at quite the same level as the 5 year series told them. What's uncertain is for how long stories in this universe will continue to be told, past TMoS and the comics, and possibly jms.

I do think good stories could be told in the universe without jms, provided he put together a talented enough group of writers.

Not that I'm saying anything that hasn't already been said before, but I think it's best to be satisfied that the B5 storyline was completed and view everything else good in the B5 universe as an added bonus.
