  • Little B5:TMoS news in Dreamwatch (from b5tv.com)

Saw this at b5tv.com forum, don't know if it deserves new thread but news is news :

The latest issue of Dreamwatch says that the B5 office is at Elstree Film Studios.

They also say that the production is being led by Peter Heslop. No word on an official announcement though.

    ----

    Heslop profile at IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0381413/

Never heard of him, but he's got some impressive credits as a Production Manager. Looks like a good solid choice.

Another four years and we may have a cast announcement.

Seriously, any new info is great.

Did Dreamwatch say what the source of the info was?

it all seems to be coming in little snippets here and there at the moment, and still no word from JMS since his last posting - however he is probably a very busy man at this time.

Personally the fact that Elstree is mentioned doesn't mean that much. I mean it could be anything. From auditioning/casting to production and set design.

We dont know yet - and until JMS gives us the info we want we are still reduced to speculating - which is obviously the point of releasing little tit-bits of information.

It keeps the fans guessing until the next small piece of info goes on line.

          And then more guessing.........

Elstree Film Studios are the biggest studios in the UK (as far as i know - and i don't know much).
Didn't they shoot the original Star Wars there?

I've heard that the Elstree Film Studios is where the 007 movies were done. They were fairly big were they not?

Return of the Jedi was done there, too. The Jabba scenes as well as the Endor scenes involving sets, such as the Ewok village. I don't know if they did the bluescreen work there.

I just wish we could get some location shooting for B5. That would be different.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

James Bond was mostly filmed at Pinewood, Home to the 007 soundstage. Though Leavesden Studios (Phantom Menace etc) has been his home of choice for the last few films.

Yes historic Elstree Studios were home to the original Star Wars trilogy, Indiana Jones and the Superman films etc etc.
Unfortunately in the early 90's film production dwindled in this country and Elstree was the highest profile victim. At one point the whole studio faced closure. (and being turned into a shopping mall!!!)

Lucas and Spielberg attempted to buy it. Parts were saved and bought by the BBC (Eastenders has a standing set there).
Pick ups for Episodes 2 and 3 of Star Wars have been filmed in what remains of the studio.

It's still an active studio but it isn't anything like size it once was.
I have the wings for Bingo.

The source was probably investigative journalism. Phone the studio and ask for the Babylon 5 Office. When the secretary answers sweet talk her into giving her bosses name.

Considering that Heslop is mainly in the AD/PM department, I would hazard to guess that he's the PM, which is why he's in charge of the offices. That's one of the PM's jobs. The PM works out of the production offices and is literally the manager of the production, overseeing costs and crew assignments, etc.

The fact that they've possibly gotten someone with Heslop's rep is impressive and leads me to believe that WB is taking this very seriously.

I, personally, recognized Heslop's name as soon as I saw it.

As for Elstree, it's still a grand studio with plenty to offer and with such a rich history, would be a wonderful place to base the production.

This if true would indeed be excellent news.

                        I agree with CE.

They must be taking this project very serously - which is excellent news for us.

This could be absolutely wonderfully spectacularly HUGE!!

When looking some Star Hyke information, i run into this, it appears to be from the same Dreamwatch article:

Heslop tells Dreamwatch that work is proceeding on the new Babylon 5
production, but was unable to reveal when any official announcement about
the project is likely to be made. "It's too early to say," he explains.
"Maybe in six weeks to two months."

This would put the official announcement about when I was expecting it to come.

After the initial delays, the studio (WB) would reconsider its original announce date and look for a date that would maximize impact.

Given that the new SW teaser is to hit theatres in front of The Incredibles in Nov., and given that the election will be over and the news cycle will have settled a bit so people's attention can turn to more fanciful things, and given that the Holidays are a great time to announce, I fully expected them to decide to announce around then.

No surprise to me, just confirmation that I'm thinking along their lines (though, I have not yet decided if this is a good thing, or a bad thing, as Ivanova would say ).
