  • Telepath War/Crisis

    Hello,

I was just watching for the first time Crusade, in the best "continuity" order, and got the chance to read the unfilmed episodes scripts, and a question got into my mind after viewing all those episodes.
Several times, they reference the "Telepath War" or "Telepath Crisis".
In the unfilmed episode featuring Bester, it is implied that it is infact the same event, understated as a "Crisis" from Bester POV.
But I read somewhere online that it is infact 2 distinct events, the "Telepath War" being the war beetween telepaths and mundanes, while the "Telepath Crisis" is describing the conflict beetween psi-corps loyal telepaths and dissident telepaths.
I didn't have the chance to have the B5 scripts books as I wasn't aware of their existence at the time of their release, so maybe the answer is inside and I don't know it, but maybe someone with better knowledge from the B5/Crusade universe, or someone who has those books can answer to my question about this ?

Good question. Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I am certain someone will have an answer for you very soon.

Try a Google search for Telepath War and Telepath Crisis.

Here's one link that came up:

I had some information stored at the old isnews.net forums but it might have been the unfilmed scripts.

What continues to suck about Crusade's cancellation is that the series was just about to explode over the shadow tech stuff.

      Waaaahhhhhh...

        Yep,
I did a little research and that's what I came out with :

        - the "Telepath War" and "Telepath Crisis" are indeed two naming for the same event

        - the conflict is composed of the 2 subconflicts between mundanes/telepaths and pro/anti psi corps

That part is more confused, as Lyta was clearly preparing for war against psi corps, while we are told several times during the last seasons of B5 that the war between mundanes and telepaths is coming, and we have no details of how those two aspects were intertwined. Because I would think that some "mundanes" would rather be more reassured if telepaths were staying into the Psi Corps, while some of them siding with the dissident telepaths... it would have been very interesting to see.
Maybe the two conflicts were separated, and converged together into one single main conflict, like how different conflicts arose and finally composed WWI and WWII.

I was just unsure, as at the end of the unfilmed script of Crusade featuring Bester, and in the story The Nautilus Coil, we are treated with the fact that

        --- SPOILERS BELOW ---

contrary to public belief and what was told about the Psi Corps "being dismantled after the Telepath crisis", the Corps is still active and they have several ships with weapons hidden into hyperspace or beneath planets' surfaces like Ganymede, implying another conflict to come.

Whilst I think Crusade had its flaws, and JMS has since expressed that sees it as something of a mis-step, it was indeed building to something and we all know it would have headed off in a different direction with the discovery of a cure and them going rogue over the Shadow tech issue. Would have been interesting to see it grow and branch out. I still struggle with the show every time i go back for a re-watch, having forgotten how patchy it is.
