      Babylon 5 Encyclopedia is Coming!

My last payment came out not long ago, so just waiting now. Thank goodness I have the patience of Varn...

The B5 books team just sent out a mini-newsletter sharing the encyclopedia entry for Vir Cotto and a con clip in tribute to Stephen Furst.

As many of you already know, Stephen Furst died two weeks ago on June 16th from complications from diabetes.

We were stunned. Because the Babylon 5 Books Team is in lockdown while finalizing the B5 Encyclopedia (which is on schedule), this is our first opportunity to pay tribute.

To that end we have released the complete Vir Cotto entry from the Encyclopedia, along with a video clip from his last con appearance ever with Peter "Londo" Jurasik.

Thanks for the Vir Cotto preview. The line about the conspiracy to assassinate the mad Emperor Cartagia struck me as weird:
When the plan was finally executed on Narn, Mollari was unable to follow through and Cotto stabbed his monarch, killing him.
Reading it at face value makes it seems that Vir bravely took a stand, sending Londo aside and accomplished the deed. Of course, we know it was a bit different as is shown by the accompanying photo - it was more of an accident.

Is that the way entries will work in the encyclopedia? Looking at events from a "historical" limited facts based point of view. Anyway, I guess there are some meta things going on with the encyclopedia.

Not at all. Unexpected but definitely deliberate. Vir had to pick up the device position it and trigger it. Not something that could be done accidentally. JMS commented on it - I'll have to see if I can find it.

There's this from the script that I found so far.
And his eyes go WIDE as there's a THUNK. We FOLLOW his eyes
down...to the device in his chest, needle sunk deep...and the
hand which has driven it there is Vir's, his eyes sick with
the horror of what he has had to do
            . Cartagia looks down to
the needle in his chest as Vir withdraws it with a SNICK,
            then staggers back.

That is the actual entry, yes. Don't know what this means?

            Just curious...

              Yes, from the Lurker's Guide
"Nothing about it was at all accidental...he had to go pick it up, turn, move to Cartagia, stick it in, and then pull the trigger. Nothing accidental about it. But if we'd shown him doing all the prep, the shock wouldn't have been as substantial."
I guess my memory was playing tricks on me.

As if the B5 Encyclopedia was written by someone inside the B5 universe with access to historical documents, as opposed to someone who has watched a TV show and read other material.

Ah, yes. Good point. It does seem to be that way. Similar to the show itself being a huge documentary.

Did you find all of the differences?
Susan Ivanova, "I'll be in the car."

Just saw the notice that JMS will be signing the pre-order hard copies.

                          Nice addition!
