  • 10 year jubilee for the Babylon 5 podcast

I just realized that it is ten years, this year, since the Babylon 5 podcast by Summer, Tim and Jeffrey aired for the first time.

    http://www.babylonpodcast.com/catego...year-1/page/5/

So a ten year jubilee should be celebrated, right? I will do so by listening to the first episodes and some of the great interviews they managed to land. Snackman, the person in charge of the craft service at the studio, and some of Claudias and Stephen Fursts come to mind. Not to mention that nowadays I can not think of Vorlons without thinking of tequila ...

Anyway, it was a good podcast that kept a high quality all through its long run and it rekindled my interest in Babylon 5 after I had been seduced by newer and fancier tv shows.

Does anyone here have any good memories or favorite interviews from the show?

I remember the Snackman interview very well : "When you're hungry - you're hungry ..."

The Babylon Podcast was my entry into listening to podcasts, and it was a great one ...

So many excellent episodes, and I am still in touch with some of the feedback'ers : I got to meet in person :
    Jarsto from The Netherlands
    Edmund from Greenville
    Gary from Jacksonville
    - and I have participated a bit in the "spin-off" Voices of Babylon with those 3 and John in New Jersey, Bronzethumb ab

Yes, as a gate-way podcast it was addictive. It has been hard to find a substitute that works equally good. I had no idea that you were involved in the audiodramas. I do remember them as being entertaining though. Sounds like great fun meeting them. Did you go to a Dragon Con or something similar for that? I do chat with Gary on Facebook from time to time, but non of the others. What did happen to Jarsto? He was almost as enthusiastic as Gary when it came to phoning in to the show for a long while, but he disappeared about half way in to its run.

So I was pondering, not as good, obviously, and i wouldn't have any of the guests but gatecast, my, (podfading 4 episodes in aside) weekly podcast is coming to an end in the next 4 to 5 months. It had been suggested I continue the format with another show, although st:tng was suggested my possibly new co host was thinking perhaps it might work better for me with a show I loved, hence babylon 5. The format is, in essence, we watch the episode and talk about what;s happening on screen, kind of like a fan commentary.
        Thoughts? would people listen?
"There are no good wars. War is always the worst possible way to resolve differences. It degenerates and corrupts both sides to ever more sordid levels of existence, in their need to gain an advantage over the enemy. Those actively involved in combat are almost always damaged goods for the rest of their lives. If their bodies don't bear scars, their minds do, ofttimes both. Many have said it before, but it can't be said to enough, war is hell. "

Maybe. It seems there is interest in the show at least. I know Babylonlurker did a B5 podcast survey some time ago (you can find it in one of the older threads) and found at least six podcasts about the show. Then again, some of them might have podfaded as well so there is an even bigger demand for B5 podcast today?

I have the feeling that Star trek might attract more listeners, but it is always easier to be motivated talking about a show you really like.

My role was only a few lines, so not too much, but fun participating.
At the time of the podcast and until about a year ago I lived in The Netherlands, so I have payed Jarsto a visit from time to time, mostly while going to or from Denmark (I am back there now). Jarsto has had some health trouble, but is good again, I am actually expecting a visit from him here next month. He is still writing, and has a day job .
I met Gary and Edmund at the 20th Anniversary at Phoenix Comicon 2 years ago.
Would love to go to Dragoncon once to meet the rest of the Critical Myth crew, though. It is far to travel for me, but who knows, perhaps one day ...

Sounds like fun. Abd it would be really fun to manage to go to some of the bigger cons some day, economy permitting. A friend of mine go to Dragon con every second/third year and have been trying to get me to tag along for a while. But it is hard on the sad pay of an archaeologist

Since you are in Sweden, and I am in Denmark, we might arrange to meet at a more "local" convention (Scandinavia/Finland/Germany)

What do you think Satai ? Could be fun.

There *are* a few European cons with a group of B5 fans ...

That is a good point indeed.

So far the only con-ish thing I've visited so far is the Sci-fi/Tv fair in Stockholm, Malmo being to far south
And the Spiel con in Essen of course, but that is not so B5-themed.
