  • Future of Crusade

This must've been asked, but has JMS hinted if there's ANYTHING to come with Crusade ? Since he is very protective of the scripts not yet filmed and aired it would imply that there was more to come. My limited knowledge what happens after the end of the show is: the cure is found rather quickly, Gideon dies and some bigger problem arises.

I don't even know if that's correct, but I would like some insights and even better .. facts

JMS hinted that some of the Crusade story might be told in the upcoming movie Babylon 5: The Memory of Shadows. As far as a resurrection of Crusade itself, it's likely much too late to regather the actors etc.

I was thinking more along the lines of the new novels.

That would be great! Haven't heard anything so far but I'm in favor of the idea considering how well the trilogies worked out.

I was hoping they'd do a SW:NJO style twenty book arc from a few different authors (with outlines from JMS, of course) that chronicled the Crusade storyline. In some ways, it may have been better than an actual TV show, more fleshed out.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

            1. We don't know that Gideon dies when he's shot at ("End of the Line"), or even if he's wounded, or even if it's really Gideon in front of the bullet. That's all left up in the air. It's a classic cliffhanger ending.

            2. The bigger problem is the legacy of the shadowtech and its roots in Earthforce Black Projects, and the Technomage connection.

            JMS has said:
Hawthorne High School Comic Con Transcript

            Transcribed by Jan Schroeder

            Q&A session

Room 120 - Fans begin gathering and taking their places in traditional school desks. Some of us haven't seen the like for...a long time. Before us is a perfectly clean blackboard. While we wait for JMS, somebody (okay, I did it) writes in large letters " MR. STRACZYNSKI" and below it, "T M o S 101"

3:00 PM. JMS arrives and, without a word, goes to the board and erases the "TMOS 101" part amid much laughter.

            ....

Audience: Any (plans?) to address the Crusade story?

JMS: Uh....(gestures toward the erased blackboard) Other questions.

            ....

Audience: Out of all your cancelled projects, which one would you like to resume first?

JMS: There's only been a couple. (laughter) He's being mean to me! Umm...Crusade. That's the obvious choice because that one was cut short...it was shot in it's cradle by unfair means and that pisses me off. So I will fix that one way or the other. Yes...

"Also, expect word fairly soon-ish about a new series of B5 novels."

Maybe they are about Crusade or subplots tied to it. As i understand, B5 licence is owned by S&S? (b5 quote book publisher)

I agree, but how many years would that take?

I think 20 would be a bit of overkill. If we just took the main plot I figure that it could be done in 3 books 5 at the maximum.

If I had my druthers, I would like to see Ms. Cavelos get the nod to write the books (however many their may be).

Of course we could get Robert Jordan to write it, but then the series would never end.

                    20 books?
                    Sorry, too much.
Let's face it: the B5 fan base is not that huge.
And I am under the impression that B5 fans are more discriminating and won't buy every tie-in book just because it has the B5 logo on the cover, as Trekkies and SW fans are supposed to do.

I'd love to see a series of books resolving the Crusade storyline, but I'd feel exploited if it took more than six-ten books to do it.
Maybe 3 trilogies, each again with one author, for a measure of continuity, that I'd find acceptable.

Dipper, it's polite to put spoiler space - and spoiler warnings! - in when you're posting stuff like that that isn't common knowledge or filmed yet.

I would have agreed with you a year ago. Back then I thought the B5 fan base was to small to support a theatrical movie. Its been looking like I was wrong for a few months now. So, I imagine a series of novels that could deal with the Crusade arc is not beyond the realm of possibility. However I'm still hoping for this wild dream, that TMoS (and its story, which may center on Crusade) serves as a relaunch for Crusade. It is a crazy thought. Isn't it?

Hey, if we get really lucky, the B5 movie might spawn a trilogy. And theres always the infantile chance it might spawn into an entire franchise of movies, ala james bond.

First the topic should discourage those who are afraid of spoilers and second those were more speculations and questions and as KoshN pointed out, I was way off.

But if anyone was offended, apologies.

                              -------------

IMO three books would be too tight a space to fill in all that is Crusade. Three triologies would be good, but even then they should begin from the beginning, not take it up from where the TV-show left off.

If TMOS becomes a reality, it could launch a whole new future for B5 and thus give Crusade a chance to prove itself.
