  • Something Classy for JMS to Autograph? ... or ... What did/will he sign for you?

Hey folks ... long time, first time.

I cannot believe it's been 20 years since I first saw The Gathering. I also cannot believe that the Universe has conspired through all that time to keep me from meeting JMS. That all ends in Phoenix, and I would really like the help of this great forum to find something "classy" that I can have JMS sign and actually display in my house.

What's "classy"? Good question. I don't really know. Here's what I do know -- G'Kar makes my daughter cry. I have that small Gollum statue that came with the original LOTR DVDs in my office, and it scares the crap out of my kids, which is perfect for keeping them out of my office, but that's not my goal here. And I can tell you right now that my wife won't let me sleep in our house if I hang a 36x24 lithograph of the Shadows fighting Starfuries. So, for the purposes of this thread, let's define classy as: something that won't give my children nightmares and won't piss off my wife.

To give you some direction, here are some half-formed thoughts I've had: a low-profile pencil/ink drawing, a relevant space-themed piece of art, an inspirational quote that can be printed and framed. Stuff like that. Does anyone have any brilliant ideas for me?

If not, use this thread to share what you have had (or will have) the man himself sign for you and what you've done (or will do) with it.

    Thanks!

    Yes, time flies, indeed !

I would have brought the litograph you mention, but transporting across oceans and continent, I will bring something smaller for JMS signing.

Welcome, Sarthaz! Thanks for going to all that trouble to get registered!

What to get signed...Is it only JMS' autograph that you'll be wanting, or do you think you might want something to get more autographs on since so many will be 'gathered' in Phoenix?

If only JMS: how about making (or having somebody make) a nice copy of the Declaration of Principles (here's a shot of the one that was sold a while back: http://declarationofprinciples.com/I...0-%20Large.htm )? That's about as inspirational as it gets, IMO. And it's very classy!

For JMS only or for multiple autographs, for me it'll be a lovely artist's rendering of the Station itself. There are some really nice ones available out there.

For mutltiple autographs, there are smaller versions of the big Lightspeed Fine Art lithographs available: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Babylon-5-Ca...item482e1ab033

I'll be interested in finding out what others are going to do.

ETA: Ooohh! I just had a thought if you're interested in the Declaration idea. Way back, the B5 Books folks had cool gear for sale and one item was a Declaration greeting card. I got a pack of them and jsut ran across it again recently. If you want, I'll be happy to let you have one. We can call it a prize for the most creative way of getting registered. Here's what it looks like: http://jmsnews.com/forums/album.php?...&pictureid=122 You're welcome to say yes or no to the offer. It's 7" by 5" so it would look nice in a small frame, I think.

More autographs would be nice, but it's hard to find something meaningful that would not feel "empty" without our absent friends.

I'm hoping to find something like that too.

Allow me to put my hand on the book and say, "I do!" I would love that. Thank you so much!

That lithograph is the one I plan to bring. the big one is too unwieldy for transport on a plane.

          - and for JMS alone, a surprise prize I won in the Skywatch game (not telling because it might ruin the surprise for a future winner).

Maybe some photo print(s) I have taken at last year's Fedcon (Walter Koenig and possibly one more)

Okay, it's yours. *Remind me* a week or so before the con. I've got a trip to C2E2 first so I can't put it my suitcase just yet.

Yeah, I love that one. Gotta wait a few more years before I can display something like that.

Me: Ya think G'Kar's scary, kid? Check out Kosh.
              Daughter: Which one's Kosh?
              Me: We are all Kosh!

Incredible work! Did you commission that one?

No, I *wish* I could afford original art. I met the artist back when I was doing some fundraising for Rick Biggs' family after he died. He donated a wonderful painting of Rick for me to auction. I've loved that painting of the Station for years and when this con was announced, I asked him if I could get a print. I'll be collecting autographs for him on another of the same print, also.

I love the people in fandom, I really do!

Way back when....during my very first 'big' B5 event in the UK in Blackpool, I got JMS to sign a large B5 Station blue-print. It was a free hand out insert that had come with an SF based modelling magazine.

I really must frame it eventually!

I'll definitely get the mini-print of the great cast lithograph. Wish I could afford the bigger one, but the trip will be expensive enough; furthermore, it would be a pain in the neck to bring it back in a suitcase without ruining it completely.

For JMS, I'll probably bring the "Lost Tales" Mini-Comic that I bought on ebay shortly after the Comic Con (was it 2009?).

BTW, this is not signature-related, but the link to the - still available - quote-shirts got me thinking: If I would like to make a custom B5-fanshirt just for myself, using a(nother) quote of the show, do you think I could/would get in trouble?

Almost certainly not, as long as it's just for personal use. Let us know what you make, okay?

*sigh* I've spent the last two days scouring deviantart for something that would work and just haven't found the right thing. So I've contacted a bunch of artists whose work I appreciate in hopes of commissioning something; however, no responses from anyone. Any other places to look for artists?
