Bill Mumy posted a great photo on Facebook a few minutes ago. Today would have been Rick's birthday.
This was taken at the memorial convention/fundraiser that was held about a year after he died. Lots of his costars from other shows and a whole lot of B5 actors were there that day to help raise money for Rick's two little boys. It was a really special day with lots of love and laughter.
I'd met Rick at a few conventions and it always struck me how interested he was in everybody he met. And if you went to one of the Biggs and Carter Experience acting classes, you were *sure* to come away with aching ribs from laughing.
The last time I saw Rick at a con, I'd just bought my script collection. He and Walter Koenig were both at a local con and I'd lugged a whole bunch of scripts for them to autograph. During a slow moment, I told Rick about my script collection and he seemed impressed. The really cool part was the next day when I was heading toward Walter Koenig's table to get a bunch of autographs from him, too. Rick saw me and took me over to introduce me to Walter and told him about my collection. With as many people as Rick met at conventions, I was really impressed and touched by that!
It wasn't widly known at the time, but Rick was deaf in one ear and was losing his hearing in the other. His widow, Lori was sweet enough to go out to brunch with me the weekend of the memorial con and I met his two little boys. Knowing that Rick was going to be completely deaf in the future, they'd all learned sign language. It was wonderful to see Lori and the boys still using sign in addition to words when talking to each other. It was obvious that they'd never forget Rick.
Nice man. Excellent actor. He's very much missed.
