So from my understanding, earth had one world government in Babylon 5 days, is this correct? Earthgov was their name for it, which would make President Clark president of the world? No wonder he let the power go to his head!

I should re-read the first telepath trilogy book since we seem to get the most early earth history from it. I wonder how earthgov was formed, and how long it had been around. I know Ivanova was from the Russian Consortium, so I guess that's how they divided up the once countries.

They didn't have it in 2115. Senator Lee could only be voted in by American voters. Twill keep reading - my fav part of the telepath trilogy is the early earth history.

That's about right, the EA government is a body over the Earth, but each of the member nations, like Russia, USA, and India for example, still have their national governments. Also, some contries haven't joined, so I'm not sure what their status would be, but EA wouldn't have jurisdiction over them. Apparently, there was at least a significant portion of Africa not in the EA, which Gen. Franklin had something to do with "liberating" it. Maybe a multinational dictator ship EA overthrew? So even though Earth is "united" the individual nations are still there.

It's like my friend explained to me, once. Some of us were wondering who Earth was allied to, he said the nations of Earth have entered into alliance with each other. That makes it a little easier to understand, I think.
"And what kind of head of Security would I be if I let people like me know things that I'm not supposed to know? I mean, I know what I know because I have to know it. And if I don't have to know it, I don't tell me, and I don't let anyone else tell me either. " And I can give you reasonable assurances that the head of Security will not report you for doing so."
"Because you won't tell yourself about it?"

"I try never to get involved in my own life, too much trouble."

Thank You for that clarification There is just so much going on and so many characters to follow it can be easy to get mixed up in the details. For me anyway.

I have to confess, I had always just figured that on encountering other civilisations, EarthGov had effectively been formed to represent the interests of Earth in a galactic context ... maybe as an upgrade of the UN as it is currently constituted ... whilst the existing nation states continued with their individual governments and relationships.

Perhaps even it is also a surrogate of the US model, with the nations being the equivalent of the individual states, while EarthGov is the Federal Government.

This is interesting for you to read:

Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.
