  • Legend of the Rangers........

    Hello from me.

I am new to these pages but I am very happy to be here. I have only recently been reintroduced to the world of B5 with the DVDs. My Fiancee (who posts here as LightStorm) has them all and we have watched them together.

What a great show it is! Much better than I actually remember. When I first saw it I missed most of the 4th and ALL(!) of the 5th seasons, so catching up was great .

Recently shown on one of our digital cable TV movie channels was "Legend of the Rangers" so we burned it onto DVD. To begin with we were very disappointed with it - and that silly old bat firing the guns was a real joke! We also weren't too pleased about an enemy older (?) than the shadows or any other First Ones? And since when was "we never back away from a fight..." ever part of the established ranger credo?

However, having said that, and with a few more viewings, it really is not that bad a film. The interesting elements within the story begin to show through.

    What do others think?

And sorry but that weapons system really did SUCK EGGS BIG TIME!!!
    Not the One......

<<And sorry but that weapons system really did SUCK EGGS BIG TIME!!!>>

So did the pistols and rifles in The Gathering.

And some think Delenn's makeup did, as well.

LOTR was a pilot, to be improved upon.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

I think it actually could have turned out really well if they had made it into a series. Even if it wasn't half as good as the very best episodes of Babylon 5, it was much better than a lot of people make it out to be.

With Crusade coming out on DVD soon (knock on wood), hopefully Legend of the Rangers will come out as well, so that the Babylon 5 DVD collection will be complete.

Not older. Just so Nasty that they were tossed Out of our universe.
It wasn't revealed Who tossed them out.
It could have been Any of the First Ones.

Now, they are trying to come Back and have someone in This universe helping them.

And since when was "we never back away from a fight..." ever part of the established ranger credo?
Not the Ranger credo. More of a Minbari racial trait.

This was established in Lines of Communication.
After the Drakh attacked them, Delenn first pulls back, then orders an All Out Attack and destroys the Drakh Mother Ship.

I believe it's Garibaldi, later in that episode, who makes the point that the Minbari seem to be incapable of leaving a Fight unresolved.

Thanks. I will let you in on a little inside info...did you know that Crusade is coming out on DVD on 12/7/04?

              Welcome Firebird.

Am I really the only one that thinks that the weapons system was a cool idea?
OK, I'll grant you that it didn't come out quite well, but it wasn't that horrible.

BTW, do we really know that The Hand were tossed out of this Universe? Heck, they might not even have been tossed out of our Galaxy, maybe they just came from the antipodal spiral arm.

I agree that the pilot would probably have been improved in the series.

It's really a shame that LOTR didn't get a series because from what I understand JMS had plans to bring in Crusade after a few years as the timelines would coincide and then we could have the continuation of that show.

Can't wait for the new movie, Hope Talia is in it!

I really hated it too. Is it just me, but isn't it stupid to put a large room dedicated only for weapons systems, when you could do that from a single panel, which would take much less space and on space ships the space is at premium.

It seems to me they were trying to do something off the wall to make the Minbari look really alien.

youd think the giant bones on thier heads would be enough
There is a greater darkness than the one we fight, its is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way.

Every time JMS tried to do that it seems people just can't take it: the alien sector in The Gathering, and now this.

(Haven't seen LotR, so I have no oppinion to its quality.)

I thought the dialogue was also quite clumsy at times. JMS seems to need some time to get into his charactors. Some of the early B5 dialogue was also un-memorable. But, boy, did it take off by the time of Parliament of Dreams!
I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in the station, when it is quiet, and just listen. After a while, you will hear the echoes of all our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Long after we are gone .. our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit .. that the part of me that is going .. will very much miss the part of you that is staying.

If by good idea you mean a weapons control system that couples an unobstructed, real-time spherical view of space with a control system that reads motions for targetting, weapon selection, and power, then I wholly agree that it was a cool idea!

If you mean hanging the actor by wires and using over the top martial arts with yelling, I don't think I can follow you there. It really is too bad they couldn't execute the concept closer to what JMS was envisioning, but I do give full marks for trying to break out of the usual concepts and images. You can't have fabulous successes if you don't risk the occasional flop.
