  • Controversial thread...

I used to be/still am a Trekker(as opposed to a Trekkie). Which is to say; I read the books but I don't dress up like Riker...

Why are there so many people criticising(sp?) StarTrek just because B5 is so much better? I mean; when ST was initially produced/thought of, jms was in diapers... And I just want to add that jsm has never been anything else but full of praise of Gene Roddenberry.

So why the rivalry? Don't we need every good SF-idea on TV?

    Just curious.

    TM.

This is probably best left to the off topic board, where we already have a thread going on a somewhat similar wavelength. I believe the thread is entitled "DS9...WOW! Better than I remembered" or some such.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

Didn't "The Cage" originally air in 1963?

If so, then your original statement stands. You said "initially produced/thought of."

i`ll never criticise STAR TREK The Original Series (which i do like very much), but the later incarnations are a different matter entirely.

I essentially hate TOS. There were a few good eps. I have a love/hate relationship with TNG. I love DS9. I think we should burn VOY at the stake and ENT is very...dull. So I hate it for what it could have been, but wasn't.

To be really really really honest; I think the best StarTrek was Voyager.... I know I know I know...I will be slaughtered for saying it but still...

Perhaps this should be on another forum though, just say the word...

Odd ... I found Enterprise to be the most entertaining of all of the series. Even more so than TNG.
I suppose it is because I have noticed an obvious trend in the writing to make the characters more fallible and dynamic. Also, by taking away all of the technogadgetry, they have had to rely on ingenuity instead of hardware to get them out of situations.

TOS still reigns as the most innovative and original series and can hardly be faulted as it was the 'pioneer'.

TNG and Voyager fixed every problem with the tired DEUX EX MACHINA "reconfigure the technobabbler to the warp plasma array ..." after seeing that done any number of times and watching 'boy wonder' Wesley Crusher fix anything and everything ... I was done. I still watched TNG to fruition but stopped Voyager dead in its tracks when I saw it for what it was ... a sad parade of ST debris.

DS9 got half a chance with me. It just didn't seem to move. The characters were dull and I cared very little about them. The show seemed like it was just ... a show being filmed week to week and did not encourage the 'suspension of disbelief' that I still get when I watch Babylon 5.

                            Never trust anyone over 30!

Umm, no, wait... I can't say that anymore.

                            Never trust anyone over 40!

Oh, well, ah, yes, um, I suppose I can't say that anymore either.

It must be people over 50 you can't trust.

Well, at least for a little while longer.
