Does anyone know why scifi.com took the links to their B5 pages down. Unless i am being dumb and cannot find them.

They no longer have the rights to play reruns of B5.Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required. -

Yes, I have high hopes for TMoS, but....
....it is still just a movie, and will thus only amount to a two hour long or so peak into the B5 universe. What I would *really* look forward to would be the launching of a new B5 series, and hopefully a feature film may awaken new possibilities....

I knew about scifi no longer having the rights to show B5, but does that also carry over to the web? Because if i have been paying attention, scifi's rights to B5 expired a while ago. So why now would they take all the links to their B5 pages away?Comment

Because it is no longer their property in any way shape or form. It is probably in the contracts that they signed when they rented it.Originally posted by closetnerd

Well, they haven't taken down the pages the links pointed to, so it can't be a rights issue. Maybe just because they haven't run the show in six months and can't run it again, so they prefer to promote the links to more active shows, especially their originals.Does anyone know why scifi.com took the links to their B5 pages down?
The message board still exists. It was just moved when they revamped their bulletin board system.
You can still find the link to the Rangers page if you go to the "more shows" drop-down list, and it includes a link to the main B5 page

Actually, it may indeed be a rights issue. But webmasters are notoriously overworked and overburdened, and an overworked webmaster, if pressed to take down the B5 pages by his/her employer, may have only had time to take down the master link in the pulldown menu. Eventually, they'll probably tidy up and remove the pages from the server. But hiding/removing the links is usually just as good from a legal perspective.
Leaving the Rangers link up in the SciFi Pictures pulldown menu (I didn't see a "more shows" pulldown menu) may have been a mistake, or the rights situation may be (and in fact probably is) different than for the main series.
Since Crusade is nowhere to be seen on the site, I assume that those rights have reverted, as well.

Aisling has a good point re: the possibility that it is a rights issue and that the quick and dirty way to handle it was to remove the links. (And I forgot what the name of the drop-down was, sue me.
) It may also be the case that right now, given that nobody else is running the show, Warner Bros. is not content to have them keep the pages in being. They get a little free publicity and a place for fans who don't come to the WB-owned site to get information on things like the DVD sets and TMoS. And they don't have to pay for it. It isn't like the situation with the TNT site where the rights lapsed on a Saturday and the new network was debuting the show and launching its own page that next Monday. (And let us always remember what a class act the folks at the TNT site proved themselves to be, posting a message announcing that the show had moved and giving the URL for the Sci-Fi B5 page.)
Regarding Rangers and Crusade I'm pretty sure you're also right. If I remember correctly, Sci-Fi picked up Crusade about six months after B5 debuted, and for the same term. So if the B5 contract expired at the end of 2003, it figures that the Crusade rights lapsed around June. With Rangers they probably had an "x" years or "y" showings exclusive that hasn't run out quite yet.
