  • Official NASA image with a B5 twist.

IÆve no intention of doing a major update to yon site I put together, but the other day I was looking over some of the stuff I didnÆt include and found this.

It only took ten minutes to put together so slapped it onto the end of the miscellaneous art bit. (Partly because I remembered reading someone point at a NASA/JPL image of a nebula or some such and joking about how it looked like a shadow battle crab û though I canÆt remember where I read it now).

Anyway, I havenÆt seen any other site mention this minor bit of trivia but I thought it was kinda cool. ; )

This website is for sale! themadgoner.com is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, themadgoner.com has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!

So the Shadows are behind what's become of the Trek franchise? It all makes so much more sense now...

Except that Vulcan orbits 40 Eridani, not Epsilon Eridani.

After it was (apparently) decided to move the bloody thing back in 1991 as it was decided to be too young a star to have a planet with an advanced civilisation planted on it. I was wondering who would mention that. ; )

But as the links show, a lot of sites (including trek ones) and the occasional NASA artist and news reporter still refer to Epsilon Eridani as Vulcan’s home star though!!?

I'm fairly certain that Eps Eri was only ever the home of Vulcan in "fanon" materials. Though it's true that a lot of fanon stuff eventually found its way into the official canon, it's also true that fanon stuff is not official.

(That was my problem with the main problem many people had with Enterprise. People said it countered established Star Trek history, but in most cases what it actually contradicted was established fanon.)

True. But it would take up too much room to explain that. Besides I figure it's one of those myths/misconceptions that belong to Trek and I'll be buggered if I'm going to start tackling some of those as well. ; )

                According to Wikipedia:

In the Star Trek franchise, Epsilon Eridani was once suggested as a possible location of the planet Vulcan, and was listed as such in the Star Trek Spaceflight Chronology. Canon Star Trek later confirmed 40 Eridani as the Vulcan star system, but Epsilon Eridani was established as the location of Axanar in Star Trek Star Charts.

Cool! Great picture and info. I'm thinking about getting the poster.

This is one of the reasons why I love B5 and can't discuss Star Trek stuff, I hate Cannon discussions. JMS has things planned and he's got a tight rein on his contributors. Star Trek is a cash cow with so many people involved I don't see how anything is cannon, much less unpaid trekkies argue over it like it's worth a damn. Sorry if I drifted off the topic of the thread, Jan.
