Sorry if this has come up already, but I was just thinking about TMoS.
Would this script still be available to JMS at all, or would the rights be held by whoever commissioned the script originally?
The script belongs to the ones who commissioned it so if JMS or WB wanted to make it, they'd have to buy or license it from them.
Remember, it's usually not up to JMS to decide when to announce anything, it's up to the people who are paying for the project. I'm here for the convention, though, so you can be sure I'll post ASAP any news (WiFi gods of the convention center willing, of course.
In case folks have been following this thread but not the Comic-Con thread:
Yes, there was going to be new B5 - it was going to spearhead a new distribution system. A full season commitment was agreed to. A budget of $2-3 million per episode was agreed to. Full creative control for JMS was agreed to. JMS couldn't go into detail but the new distribution system collapsed and so that possibility is closed.
But- JMS has gone back to WB and proposed something else and negotiations are going on, at least in early stages.
In unrelated TV news, JMS has been contracted to write a pilot script for a show called "Epidemic" which he characterized as being set around the CDC about a virus that's gotten out of control, part procedural with some mystery. He wants to be sure to get the details right. Two companies are bidding for it overseas and a US partner is being sought.
Absafraggin wonderful. Lucy has pulled the football out, again.
"And what kind of head of Security would I be if I let people like me know things that I'm not supposed to know? I mean, I know what I know because I have to know it. And if I don't have to know it, I don't tell me, and I don't let anyone else tell me either. " And I can give you reasonable assurances that the head of Security will not report you for doing so."
"Because you won't tell yourself about it?" "I try never to get involved in my own life, too much trouble."
I doubt anything more will happen with B5, except for new releases from The Joe Store. Then again, I was wrong about Duke Nukem Forever never coming out.
RIP Coach Larry Finch
Thank you Memphis Grizzlies for a great season.

Re: B5...the studio offered a full season of a new and rebooted B5 as part of a new distribution venue they were creating
...
The negotiations (not between us but between the participants of the venue) dragged on for over a year, we were told repeatedly this is going to happen, but finally, the participants couldn't make the math work. So we and the other three shows that they were hoping to put out there got set aside.
...
But again, B5 was never created to be a Deep Space Franchise, we wanted to do our 5 years and get out clean. That was my intent going into this, and if that's where this ends up, I'm happy to stick with that.
