  • April's announcement

I've just heard that Dallas is coming back. At least, I think it was Dallas, it could be Dynasty, I never really paid them much attention and couldn't tell them apart.

With all these remakes and reimaginings, what do you think the chances are of B5 undergoing the same? Would JMS allow it? Would we accept it?

Your thoughts and opinions please peeps

What JMS said at (I think it was) the New York Comic-Con was that he told WB that he'd have to have a decently budgeted feature or TV show with complete creative control in order to do more B5.

If those parameters are met, I'm sure to give whatever it is a try.

Would JMS go for it? Guess time will tell. If I were him and was promised a proper budget, I'd go for either one.

This would have happened already... but I keep losing the damn Powerball.

I wonder at this stage in jms' life if:

        1) He would want to be heavily involved in a B5 project, and what the fans would think if he wasn't.

        2) How much would he change or would the studio change to appeal to the general public.

        3) Would he give up his recasting refusal and go ahead with different actors?

There are probably a dozen such hypotheticals involved in a return to Babylon 5.

It's a dream I have. Oh I'm sure we've all had dreams similar to this.

I come in to a large sum of money. However much it is, it's enough to buy the property from WB, and I go to JMS. I say "I want you to make a new Babylon 5 series. I don't care if it's a continuation or a remake. Here's 200 million bucks, and it's got to last you five years. There's just one condition, you have to have regular appearances by Maggie Egan as Jane." And that's the ONLY note I'd give him. Beyond that, he has complete, free reign to do the series properly without any network interference.

Knowing what he did in the third and fourth seasons (commonly considered to be the best, by the fans I've talked with, and the two seasons when the interference was the least, when PTEN no longer cared and before TNT started their notes), I can only imagine what a full-length series would be like.

          I can dream.

I believe many of us also have a similar dream. If I recall correctly, each episode of Babylon 5 cost on average $0.8 Million or around $88 Million for 110 episodes in 1995 dollars. That would be roughly $132 Million in 2010 dollars.

Yeah but didn't JMS says "ask me after April" when he was at the Comic Con event last year, that apparently "there was movement in the grass" or whatever along those lines, and that he had discussions with W.B or they talked about it, but he couldn't say anything back then as to what would unfold...

As I mentioned before a while back, having seen the series once again in its entirety, (I only have the crusader series left to see) I'd do anything to help make it happen to see B5 back on the big screen in anyway I could volunteer..lol...there is much to be told in that universe yet!!

Yes he did say that - on more than one occasion. All we can do is wait and dream ^^

I *think* he's said both 'after April' and 'in April'.

And did you know that only 6 dates in April and 1 date in may have been chosen for the new Skywatch Game? We've already had one winner.

Well hopefully there is more developments on the B5 horizon, surely JMS hasn't forgotten the fans and the clamour for more stories from the B5 universe?

It's not a matter of forgetting or clamor, really. When he spoke at MIT a couple of years ago, JMS made it clear that he had let his own love of the B5 universe sway him into making things in the B5 universe that didn't add to it because he was restrained by an inadequate budget. He'd made it clear that he wouldn't allow that to happen any more.

The fact that WB picked up the phone and called him is a good sign but I imagine much negotiating is/was/will be required.

                            Only...

Only time will tell, literally, not even the Vorlons know (or maybe they do?) if there will be anymore from the B5 universe making its way to a small/big screen..
