Jerry Doyle was recently hospitalized with a serious health crisis but is on the mend. The link goes to his explaination and (of course) segues to a commentary on health care.
I actually felt kindly towards him for about seven minutes, and really felt sorry about his troubles and wished him well...and then he started in on those bullshitty talking points about health care. Well, I still wish him well and hope he feels better, but I'm also never going to listen to his radio show again!

I've never listened to his show before, I must do that soon.
"And what kind of head of Security would I be if I let people like me know things that I'm not supposed to know? I mean, I know what I know because I have to know it. And if I don't have to know it, I don't tell me, and I don't let anyone else tell me either. " And I can give you reasonable assurances that the head of Security will not report you for doing so."
"Because you won't tell yourself about it?" "I try never to get involved in my own life, too much trouble."
I wish Jerry well and I am really Glad that he is on the mend.
However....his pod cast is something else altogether!!
I think JD may be mistaken about at least one thing.
At one point in his pod cast he talks about the fact that if he had been in a couple of other countries "...or in the UK..." that he would already have a toe-tag on, and be at room temperature, mentioning that our lives are at risk here from the "...bean counters..."
I too, nearly died, about two years ago. I did not know it at the time but I had two badly infected gall stones in my gall bladder and over a week this had given me what I thought of as only a minor digestive problem. Then at 1:30am on the Friday morning, I awoke with a pain in my side that felt like I had been stabbed. My wife was panicking because she said I'd turned white as a sheet, I could not get my breath and cold sweat was pouring out of me in buckets. She called an ambulance which arrived inside 5 minutes. The hospital staff were superb and, after testing, diagnosed my heavily infected system.
On arrival I had a temperature of 102.4F, which rose and peaked on Sunday night at 104.6F...and then, as the continuous IV antibiotics (combined with hourly blood tests!) began to finally make headway, it began to tail back down. I was back in my own bed by Tuesday night. My treatment was beyond faulting. Even though there were some staff who did their jobs because they clearly loved having a job, and some who did it because they just loved the job, not one person was in any way, shape or form...lacking in professionalism any area.
Now at no point did anyone ask me for health insurance details, I was not hassled by administrators asking me about my cover, I was not expected to pay as I arrived, and certainly was not presented with a bill as I left and none appeared in the post after a discreet period of time had elapsed.
That is the actual reality of health care in the UK. Now, as an English UK resident, I bitch and moan about our National Health System and how it could be run better, but the truth is, I just would not like to live in a country where a person is asked to produce their insurance papers before any treatment is given, because then the so-called bean counters that Jerry bemoans over have already won, surely? From just my own personal experience, I was a person, a patient and not and insurance claim.
As much as I like JD, I think he, as one who has probably never been treated for anything (major or, in fact, at all?) in a UK hospital, needs to refocus his comments onto geographical locations over which he is a tad more familiar, and not just assume that "similar" is "the same".
Glad you made it, LightStorm. Suffice it to say that I've never known JD to let facts get in the way of a good rant. As Amy posted, I felt for him for about the first 7 minutes of that update. Never did finish it.
Just heard about this Glad Jerry is on the mend. But I think its a bit unfair to say his point of view are "talking points" just because you don't agree with him doesn't mean he is reading from a script.
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Champagne in one hand - strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming WOW - What a RIDE!"
But I think its a bit unfair to say his point of view are "talking points" just because you don't agree with him doesn't mean he is reading from a script.
It's not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing. The man only talked in sound bytes. He claimed that if he'd had this health crisis under 'Obamacare', he'd be dead. Did he say *why* he thought that, give even the smallest expample? Nope. Like I said, sound bytes.
Conservative, but I think he quit being a Republican after his bid for office. I gather that left a bad taste in his mouth. Doesn't he bill himself as an independant conservative these days?

Yes he does. I quite like his show. gives me a break from Rush or Hannity and is at least willing to call Republicans and Democrats on the carpet, better than that guy on XM/Siruius POTUS channel (forget his name).
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against such power, governments, and kingdoms, and conquerors cannot stand.

I agree with you Ranger, At least Jerry calls everyone out no matter what party they are from. I like him a whole lot better tha Glenn Beck, I used to like Glenn, but then it got all about buying his books and I don't like that. Jerry gives a fresh honest insight on American politics, and the sound bite heard is not doing him justice.
I read most of his book at the book store. It was a good read. He intertwines a lot of B5 experiences in it.
And it's not about party, it's about ideology. Nobody will find a party that exactly fits their personal ideology. Voting is about choosing the lesser of two evils.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.
