  • What does your username mean?

I debated starting this thread in a different place on the boards, but I didn't know how many of us actually visit the different areas......so I started it here. Hope I'm not violating a board policy. It's not B5 related, but USER related.

After months of curiosity I finally felt compelled to ask: What does your username mean? We have such creative aliases here! I'll start off:

Ben-Thayer Dunnthaedt: say it quickly without too much thought of how it's pronounced.........in case ya didn't get it, "been there done that"

I got the idea after watching Col. Ari-Ben Zayn on "Eyes".

    How about some others?

My name is taken from the dark fantasy novel ''Shadow'', one of the most well written books I've ever read.

    Plot summary:

A man wakes in the wilderness, amid scattered corpses and inquisitive crows. He has no memory of who he is or how he came to be there. The only clues to his former existence lie in his apparent skill with a sword and the fragmented dreams that permeate his sleep. While on his quest for his missing identity, he comes across a startling realization: Alot of people seem to want him dead.

The world about him is in turmoil. Rumours of a mysterious, elusive raiding force begin to surface. Seemingly at random, entire villages are razed to the ground, its citizenry butchered down to the last woman and child. The rumours also speak of a ruthless mercenary company's involvement.

A deadly order of swordmonks is said to be acting behind the scenes.

It is foretold that Poldarn, god of fire and destruction, one who is prophesised to be bringing about the end of the world, may be returning.

Death follows him like a shroud.

Mine was taken from B5, if youve watched season 2 then you'll know that some of the Minbari didnt want sheridan in control of Babylon 5, they called him Starkiller because of what he did in the minbari war to the blackstar.
There is a greater darkness than the one we fight, its is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way.

Not to mention that movie script from the 70s titled "The Adventures of Luke Starkiller", which then became "The Adventures of Luke Skywalker" before eventually becoming "Star Wars".

As for my name, well um....

I was trying to come up with something B5 related (I don't ordinarily participate in discussion groups, so I had nothing at hand before registering here ) I was thinking B5... I was looking around my luxurious cube replete with Dilbert cartoons... I was feeling forgotten...

            'Nuff said!

Mine is actually one of the secret names of God(dess) as discovered by the monks on Babylon 5.

No need to grovel in my presence, a simple obeisance will suffice.

Yeah, and who's the male god...Fred?

My name is is from a trilogy my roommate and I created which is still rattling around in my head. We wanted to come up with a great epic SF saga. We did.

Would love to tell you all the tale, but...well...it's way too long to go into and it's not copyrighted yet.

I'm told it's quite good. The overall name of the trilogy is the Colony Earth Trilogy.

I'm rather proud of the story...it's my great SF saga.

My handle comes from a couple of sources, but really harking back to a nickname I got as the perennial lead guitar player in my band(s)-JohnnyB, which is from the planet Chuckberry.

Taking that, I broke it down to the three words Jah, knee, and bee (I live in the Caribbean, so I hear the Jah name for God regularly- it's all the same Great Maker anyway. I like the line from Brother Theo-'looking for all the various names of God'-paraphrased, of course).

Philosophical digression: We are all bees on the knee of Jah. You can bee cool and Jah gone let ya be. But if you bee stinging the knee of Jah, He gonna slap you but good.

mine-obviously comes from my love of the B5 Rangers--and another love for the history of the Texas Rangers of the old West..Since I have a goood working knowledge of B5, but often lack the complete wisdom of knowing all the intricacies, I didn't consider myself worthy of Ranger 1.
Since I also like to laugh and make others laugh--thelast part came from my other love of the true 3 wise men of the universe--the 3 Stooges..

Mine predates the 'net a bit. I am an avid Napoleonic miniatures and board wargames fan, and member of Napoleon's Old guard infantry was known as a "grognard" which translates into "grumbler" in English. I used to complain about rules problems (until I wrote my own) and thus became a "grumbler" and then the "grumbler" when we formed our group of gamers. I have used the nick ever since (being also pleased with its assocation with grognard as it came to mean a board wargames nut), and it made sense to keep it when the Internet came along with nicknames required. That also explains why it isn't capitalized. It isn't a proper name, just a description.

I am sometimes "episode110" since B5 came out, on boards where the nick "grumbler' had been nicked. But mostly I am grumbler everywhere it counts.
I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in the station, when it is quiet, and just listen. After a while, you will hear the echoes of all our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Long after we are gone .. our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit .. that the part of me that is going .. will very much miss the part of you that is staying.

I figured someone had grabbed Kosh, so I went with NotKosh.

And I figured it would sound semi-mysterious, to pebbles.
