  • Sheridan's Telepathic Resistance

This thought has been bothering me, and I figure this is the best place to flesh it out.

Sheridan's line to Lyta "You're not the only one that's been touched by the Vorlons", and his apparent immunity to her telepathy makes me wonder a few things:

    1) Is Sheridan only immune to Lyta because they both had Kosh in them?
    2) Is Sheridan immune to all Vorlon created telepathy in other races?
    3) Was Bester unable to read Sheridan's mind in "Rising Star" due to Sheridan's Vorlon touched skull?
    4) Was Sheridan able to tell Galen's presentation in Lost Tales was real/real and not pretend/real because of an ability to see through telepathic deception?

I realize this was a cute throw away line for the scene, but it made me curious. I'd love to hear anyone else's thoughts on the topic.

It sure seemed like Bester couldn't get a read on him.

I don't think there was any indication in the episode that Bester tried to read Sheridan in that "Rising Star". Recalling the way we were shown that Lyta was blocking him previously, I think we'd have gotten a visual cue when he tried, if he had.

I think Sheridan's ability to differentiate types of visions was mainly from previous experience, particularly with Galen, who'd provided dreams in "A Call to Arms".

Don't know about any other resistance to telepathic influence but it would be an advantage for him, wouldn't it?

Was "Rising Star" the one where Bester said "By all rights I should arrest her and take her back with me." and then Sheridan said "Oh, you could do that, and I could nail your head to the table, set fire to it and feed your charred remains to the Pak'ma'ra, but it's an imperfect world and we never get exactly what we want, so get used to it." ?

If so, I think Lyta was blocking Bester from scanning any of them, and when Bester tried to scan her, she psychically hit him, hard.

No, Rising Star was when Bester comes to see Sheridan after the liberation of Earth. It's the one where Bester threatens Sheridan and he (Sheridan) scoffs, "Death...been there, done that."

You're thinking of "Epiphanies", and that's the one where we saw how Lyta blocked him.

I don't think it was ever verbally communicated that Sheridan was somehow changed or transformed by having Kosh in him, but it is implied that having Loriens engergy flowing in him, has changed him and made him more sensitive.

Sheridan's "You are not the only one that's been touched by the Vorlons." and his immunity to Lyta's influence ("Wheel of Fire" S5E19) implies exactly that.

Oh yes, at that big wooden table with only Sheridan and Bester in the room, and a guard at the door, when Bester produces an evesdrop jamming device so they can speak privately. I didn't get any sense that Bester was trying to read him there.

I'm due for a rewatch. Thing is, I'm trying to get caught up watching sooooo many other shows (Fringe S1, Chuck S1 & S2, Bones S4, House S4 & S5, etc. on DVD), not to mention this season's The Big Bang Theory, Castle, NCIS, Criminal Minds, CSI-NY, CSI, The Mentalist and Supernatural. I got caught up with Supernatural, but between that and work, I lost ground with everything else. Can't watch Fringe in broadcast because it's on across from CSI & Supernatural, or House in broadcast because it's on across from the CBS Monday Night comedies and Heroes or Chuck, so Fringe and House are DVD-only for me.

I was caught up with Criminal Minds before the start of this season, but then completely lost track of it with everything else that's going on. I don't know why I even record shows anymore. By the time I get around to watching them, the DVDs are out! (well, except for Supernatural.)

I've got to cut some shows loose or become independently wealthy! Thing is, neither avenue looks likely.
