Been a bit away form the net, so here goes :

I love this episode to bits, the performances are great, and the implication s about the Vorlons even better.

It ranks in my top 5 B5 episodes, though there are *so* many good ones...

I had my doubts about Kosh going all the way back to DeathWalker.

While Kosh himself seems to care about those around him (for a Vorlon), the morality of his race does seem a bit 'grey' at times.

Watched it again the other night. The beginning bit where Delenn goes to see Kosh is a bit of an eyeopener.

"Lennier said you were calling for me."
"Yes."
"Is there something wrong?"
"You, perhaps. We have sent for an inquisitor."
"An inquisitor? Why?"
"To be sure, about you. You will submit to his authority."
"How will I know who it is?"
"You will know, if you survive."

The rational for Delenn accepting this seems a bit lame. Its a bit like well its OK you know but you might die. WTF?? get a grip woman and tell him to take a flying jump.

"Kosh must be certain that my choice was correct and made for the right reasons." Doh?? Do you not have a mind of your own?

So anyway Kosh has doubts? Why? Sounds like the Vorlons might not have trusted kosh's jusgement in this matter and sent Jack to make sure Kosh was right.

Getting someone who is just a monster to do the job for the Vorlons does not put them in a good light IMO. At the time I wondered if somehow the real bad guys were the Vorlons, or maybe the Vorlons and Shadows were the same (geometry of shadows, Green/Purple etc....) that had maybe taken their roles in the same or a similar manner to the drazi conflict. It just seemed so far fetched that the vorlons who, dont forget, wanted to blow up B5 in the gathering, and who dont trust outsiders, were the GOOD GUYS.

And then Kosh decides to put in his angelic appearance next episode and my reasoning (at the time) was shot.

I'd agree that the end of season 2 is one of the strongest runs of episodes the show ever had, from In The Shadow of Z'Ha'Dum onwards things really don't drop below exellent(well perhaps not the Sheridan story in Knives). I remember back at the time I was on holiday for 3 weeks, set the video up to record them and came back able to watch the last 3 episodes back to back.

I think the most impressive thing about Comes The Inquistor was that we'd seen Trek try the same kind of thing soooo many times before without much sucess.

Another thing i really like about this episode is its' sense of symmetry.

While Delenn is facing the trials of Sebastian, G'Kar is also facing his own 'inquisitor' in the form of his own people, who question his ability to lead the Narn population on B5.

It is a very aptly titled episode.

Another thing i really like about this episode is its' sense of symmetry.

I have to agree with the above, I have been rewatching the episodes again and yesterday was a the day I looked forward to at it was the DVD with the Inquisitor on and now reading Brother Michael I do see the symmetry with G'Kar

Whatever about WA's voice (and it IS creepy!) or the "final reveal" at the end (which let's be honest, most of us had guessed earlier), the moment in that episode that always gives me shivers is Sebastian's approach --- the tap tap tap of his metal cane as he arrives and just before Delenn sees him. Talk about understated suspense!

But someone else has mentioned feeling incredulous that Delenn would "take orders" from Kosh. Well, I think it's a common thread running right through the storyline from about "In the shadow" right up the the end of the Shadow War, that Delenn, if not the Minbari themselves, know that she and her allies need the Vorlons, for the only way you can fight legends is with legends.

Let's not forget that it was Kosh's intervention in "Interludes" when he brings the Vorlons into the fight, resulting in his subsequent death, that effectively turns the tide, not of the battles, but of the other races' belief that the Shadows can be beaten.

Delenn knows, as Kosh knows, that the coming war will depend heavily on her influence with the Vorlon, and so she is ready to do as she is told, to submit, even to die if need be, to achieve her aims. It's a trade-off, one she's prepared to make for the Greater Good.

Sebastian: "You would die here, friendless, alone in the dark, where no-one can see, where no-one will ever know? No armies, no songs, no miltary victories? You will give up your life here, now, in this place?"

Badly remembered, but you know the speech.

The Inquisition was more for Delenn's benefit than it was for the Vorlons. She came away from that encounter much stronger knowing that she was the right person in the right place at the right time. JMS said so, according to I think, it was the lurkers guide.

Yeah, it was mean, and she could have died, but she didn't. She does it to herself on Minbar in the wheel of fire at the end of the Minbari civil war. Delenn is amazingly strong. Like Sheridan says just before he dies, "I don't think there is anything that she can't handle."

I think it may have been this encounter that gave her the strength and the confidence to go back to the grey council and break it. She takes everything that they had been telling her for years, everything that Mr. Sebastian tells her, and she throws it all back in their faces. She wasn't strong enough before to do that.

She was taking prophecy after all and applying it to herself. She knew she was right, but after comes the inquisitor she KNEW she was right. If that makes any sense at all. it also put her and Sheridan closer together.

Also anyone who would like to see much more of Mr. Sebastian, more inquitors, soulhunters, and the Vorlons as truly evil then you should read "A dark distorted Mirror" by Gareth Williams. It is amazing.

It's not cannon but fanfiction. 5 volumes of fanfiction. Gareth lives in wells and he writes a fanfiction novel for each year of the show. The premise is that when Delenn chooses a human to bring aboard their ship during the battle of the line something goes horribly wrong and she misses Sinclair. The result being that earth is destroyed. It is really really long, but really really awesome! Gareth takes all of the known characters and most of the things that happens in B5 and twists them. If you feel sorry for Delenn in this episode see what happens to her in DDM, and then tell us how you feel. A warning though, if you actually make it all the way through you will never see Babylon 5 the same way again. For me I watch this episode now and I'm like, that's nothing. A few hours of torture. Big deal. Delenn has a cushy life in this her official world. I still love the episode though. She and Sebastian never even meet in DDM. He still manages to hurt her though, way worse than he does in this. Way worse.
