  • Crusade Order

I swear I read in a thread the order in which JMS recommended watching the episodes for Crusade. I performed a search but did not readily come up with the info. Could someone point me in the direction of that info? I watched the original airings of Crusade but am going to Netflix the DVD's and want to watch it in the recommended order.

I'm pretty sure that the way the Lurker's Guide lists them is the order that JMS gave but I'm not sure you'll be able to do it via Netflix. Isn't that just one disk at a time?

    103 Racing the Night
    101 The Needs of Earth
    102 The Memory of War
    107 The Long Road
104 Visitors from Down the Street
    106 The Well of Forever
105 Each Night I Dream of Home
    110 Patterns of the Soul
    109 The Path of Sorrows
    111 Ruling from the Tomb
112 The Rules of the Game
    108 War Zone
    113 Appearances and Other Deceits

I know Mac and others have better lists but you have to remember that there's always going to be some discontinuites due to the TNT Effect.

Other than some continuity errors with Lochley and Gideon, jms' order helps the series develop better, and helps it make more sense.

Yeah, well, the rent is cheap, the pay is decent and I get to make my own hours.

I have 1 DVD out at-a-time (Unlimited) Plan. The limiting factors are how quickly you can watch the DVD, and the time required for mail delivery. Bottom Line: I get a DVD about every three days. There are other levels.

1 DVD out at-a-time, unlimited per month + unlimited instant watching ...mine.
2 DVDs out at-a-time, unlimited per month + unlimited instant watching
3 DVDs out at-a-time, unlimited per month + unlimited instant watching
4 DVDs out at-a-time, unlimited per month + unlimited instant watching
5 DVDs out at-a-time, unlimited per month + unlimited instant watching
6 DVDs out at-a-time, unlimited per month + unlimited instant watching
7 DVDs out at-a-time, unlimited per month + unlimited instant watching
8 DVDs out at-a-time, unlimited per month + unlimited instant watching

1 DVD out at-a-time (limit 2 rentals a month), Watch instantly (up to 2 hours a month) The cheapest plan.

The issue with Netflix that Jan was referring to is that the preferred order jumps back and forth between discs in places. I have a piece of paper in my DVD set that lists the preferred order with the disc and position for each episode, and even though it's been a while since I watch, I do very clearly recall that the 5 disc player was very handy.

I know, but what I was getting at was that 4 DVDs out at-a-time, unlimited per month + unlimited instant watching would possibly allow you to have all four Crusade DVDs at once, and then you could jump around from disc to disc to your heart's content.

...or you could buy the entire Crusade set for $14.76 like when it was Sale Priced at Deep Discount DVD.

Do a Search for Crusade. It's on page 2, under "Crusade: The Complete Series" and the best current price (according to the page) is DeepDiscount.com $ 39.88.

Agree with everything that was said, however, if someone has access to the 3 un-produced scripts, I suggest the following order:

              1. War Zone
              2. Ruling from the Tomb
              3. Appearances and Other Deceits
              4. Racing the Night
              5. The Needs of Earth
              6. The Memory of War
              7. Visitors from Down the Street
              8. Each Night I Dream of Home
              9. To the Ends of the Earth (Unfilmed, 115)
              10. Value Judgments (Unfilmed, 114)
              11. The Long Road
              12. The Well of Forever
              13. Patterns of the Soul
              14. The Path of Sorrows
              15. The Rules of the Game
              16. The End of the Line (Unfilmed, 122)

Hopefully a Crusade script book is on the way soon that will put this to bed once and for all

Oooh, I don't know about that. Ruling from the Tomb 2nd??? No. RftT is in June (15th, IIRC). WZ is in January. RtN is in ~February/March. The Long Road is early as well.

I did it that way to make Lochley's appearances make more sense. It always bugged me watching "Each Night I Dream of Home" before "Ruling from the Tomb", so I prefer watching them in that order.

I know, but it has to go there because of the uniform change, which my order explains. You could probably switch that with "Value Judgments", but putting it in between "War Zone" and "Appearances" would delay "Racing the Night" longer than I'd like.

Yes, but that doesn't mean that you have to put "Ruling from the Tomb" in the #2 of 13 slot, just that it has to be before "Each Night I Dream of Home" and "The Rules of the Game" (the other two Lochley appearances).

It's done by having one list that maintains "Black vs. Grey/Red Uniform Continuity" and one list that doesn't.

That's what I'm trying to do, make one that does

Actually it does. The two episodes that explain the uniform switch are "Appearances" (black to red) and "To the Ends of the Earth" (red to black). This means that the 5 Red Uniform episodes have to be sandwiched between these two episodes. "Each Night I Dream of Home" is a Red Uniform episode, so it has to be placed in this group.

Now, what I'm doing with my order is trying to preserve JMS's order as much as possible while also explaining the uniform change. This means that, while I have to start with "War Zone", I need to get to "Racing the Night" as soon as possible. Also, because "Ruling from the Tomb" is clearly the episode where Gideon and Lochley meet for the first time, it has to be placed before "Each Night." Therefore, the #2 slot is the only place I can put "Tomb".

The only way I could put "Tomb" later in the order would be to put more black uniform episodes in between "War Zone" and "Appearances" which I don't want to do because it delays the start of the red uniform episodes.
