The 91 year old spent nine years playing Inspector Lewis Erskine on the hit programme The F.B.I., which debuted in 1965 - and he has finally been recognised for his small screen efforts by real agents.
Zimbalist, Jr. was presented with an honourary FBI badge - the service's highest civilian accolade - by the force's director Robert Mueller on Monday.
And the veteran star admitted he was flattered by the honour, branding the FBI the country's "guardian".
