  • Preqel or Sequel

Hello all. I've just been reading about The Memory of Shadows. What does everyone think ? Will it be a continuation of the story with Shadow tech popping up from somewhere, or will it be a flashback or prequel like In the Beginning ?

Personally I think there is loads of story from the Shadow war that could be fleshed out in the new project. Quite often in the show it focused on Sherriden and co. deliberating the war from the war room, while the real battles were taking place elsewhere. I'd love to see some more of the war, I know there were loads of skirmishes that we only hear about and dont actually see. (I believe Doreena's planet's destruction being one of them)

I know I'd much rather see the Shadows in full force than someone just stumbling across some old tech.

This is very unlikely, as the whole shadow war story is done, dusted, and yesterday's news. I doubt very much that JMS would want to re-visit old ground. However, the very thought of those shadow vessels on the big screen in all their might, ripping minbari cruisers to shreds...... sends shivers down my spine

At the Hawthorne comic con, we'd playfully written "Mr. Starczynski" (like teachers used to do) and "TMoS 101" (as the name of the class. The first thing JMS did upon entering was to erase the TMoS 101.

He referred back to that twice, though. Once was because of a question regarding the Techno-Mages and the other was regarding the Crusade story.

Lots and lots of interesting speculation can be started from those clues, especially if you've read the Techno-Mage trilogy.

Perhaps we may yet see Galen again after all.

        And maybe a few others.....

Except that at the Hawthorne con, Jan (who wrote it on the blackboard herself) spelled it correctly.

Hey, ladies. Any more funny stories from your visit from JMS, or perhaps some more interesting bits of info ?

How much time did you get to speak to him ? Did he talk about old B5 at all, or just comics and recent stuff ?

Well, first there was the autograph line. There were several of us who are long-time posters (or lurkers) on the moderated newsgroup so we introduced ourselves as we got to JMS and he had a joke or something to say to each of us while he signed and let us take pictures. He seemed to know us pretty well. Aisling flipped her hair and whapped him square in the face with her long tresses which was good for a laugh as he pretended blindness.

Later on he allowed us to 'drag' him out to Aisling's car for a photo opportunity with us all. Aisling's Saturn had been wrapped to promote Legend of the Rangers a while back. She convinced them to leave G'Kar on her rear window so it was cool to get a pic of JMS leaning against the G'car with G'Kar next to him.

As for stories, the last thing on the schedule that day was the Q&A session. Closest he came to an 'old B5' story would have been when somebody asked him which character came closest to being JMS' voice on the show (first answer: the cat in Brown Sector). There were other stories, though. About his collaboration post-humously with Rod Serling and the close encounter they had when JMS was still in High School. A conversation he had on linguistics with some hookers in Vancouver (no, really!)...little things like that <g>. One of my personal favorite memories was his teasing me about my collection of scripts.

I'd seen him in person a few other times so I knew that he was very well worth the trip from FL to see. Thanks to another attendee, I have a tape of most of the Q&A session which I'm (very) slowly transcribing. If you're interested, Aisling posted some pictures and short movies Hawthorne Con

Note that the title is "The MEMORY of Shadows".

Which implies that it takes place After the Shadows have left the building.

Most likely: One of the unfilmed Crusade scripts JMS posted (briefly) online had Gideaon discovering a secret Earthforce research project building ships that incorportaed Shadow Technology.

We know that Earthforce had a contingent of Shadow collaborators. Remember Morden's meeting with them?

These were Clark's supporters. They'd be happy to get back into power again....

Aherm. Well, those whom JMS didn't recognize outright* did indeed have to introduce themselves.

Thanks Jan. I hope you'll post it for us here, when you get time to finish it.

Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.
