  • The "other" B5 podcast

Yep, there's another Babylon 5 podcast out there. It's called The Station Podcast, and you can find it here. It's two old friends who happen to be sci fi geeks ranting and raving about the show. And veering into other topics at random.

Has anyone listened to it so far? What do you think of the show?

    Ok, done pimping now.

Yeah it’s hard not to be a pimp, eh. Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Has a good professional looking set up to it. Has there been problems, as I noticed by the dates that just as you were getting some rapid increase in the downloads that you disappeared for a while. That might have been addressed in one of the segments I noticed. But I can’t download it as, believe it or not I’m still on a 56k connection. That costs me a bloody fortune. J

By the way, your not pimping anything. Genuinely and honestly - The only way things like this are ever going to be noticed (or appreciated) is if you spend a day hitting every site you can find, the internet is a friggin monster. If it’s good, word of mouth will do the rest. I can’t hear it but if enough folks think it’s good stuff then get out there - and ignore those that call you a troll . . . . . .sorry, did it again. lol

Well, one day we decided "What the heck, why not see if there's anything we have to say?" We recorded a couple tracks and put them out there, just seeing if anyone would listen. I thought we'd be doing pretty well to get a dozen downloads. As of last night, it's 457 downloads, and there hasn't been any promotion, just people finding it at random.

At first, we didn't know if anyone would want to listen, so the first batch was a test. Now we know (and we're actually getting emails from people who like it, which is cool and bizarre at the same time), so we're continuing to feed the public.

The episodes are short. The longest so far is 22 minutes, and they're averaging about 15 minutes, around 10 megs.

Why not give it a try, and see what you think?

Next time that I hit an internet cafÚ IÆll download the lot. Personally, and I know this is going to sound REALLY dickish, soon as you put yourself out there for people to pass comment on in the name of something that you enjoyed, i.e B5 and doing a podcast, you immediately go up in my estimations û not that that should matter a single jot to you in the slightest.

IÆm sure thereÆs an analogy that can be drawn somewhere about citizens and something or other from Starship Troopers. But itÆs cool û succeed, fail or just manage to just survive with you sanity intact, itÆs appreciated that your trying it.

As someone who just enjoyed the show, I wish more folks would try different things, and to hell what the size of the current active community is. Passive browsers outnumber active posters a very big number to 1. Yon site I did is still getting over 20,000 hits a month.

I might not agree with everything that you say, I definitely look at the things differently. But thatÆs the nature of a community. Vi à v v what ever the bloody French word is la difference <it works if you say it with a French accent and pronunciation>

A quick update on a couple things.

1 - Parliament of Dreams is up, Mind War will be going up tomorrow.

2 - We've had 445 downloads this month so far. If everything continues like it has, we'll have had 500 downloads by the end of the month. Since we didn't know if we'd even get a dozen downloads total when we started, I think that's pretty amazing.

3 - We'll be having a special guest interview soon, complete with prizes. Keep listening for details.

Bumping to add ... Due to the fiasco that is mypodcast.com, I'm moving the files over to my own hosting. I had to learn RSS before I could do it, but two weeks without a single person being able to update their podcasts has the other users on that site in an uproar.

But it's good. It's not a pretty site by any means (and if anyone would be willing to help redesign that page, I'd be grateful), but everything is there, the RSS feed is there, links to each episode's mp3 file, and to the Live Journal community post for each episode.

War Prayer is now up, and And the Sky, Full of Stars will go up tomorrow.
