  • Sinclair Outline / Sequel Plan

Since this doesn't have to do with the War without End episode, I thought I'd add it here instead.

In the other thread, I had mentioned that some of the sequel ideas in the Sinclair outline had ended up in the main Babylon 5 show (Londo's keeper; end of Shadow war; formation of Alliance). This made me wonder what the sequel idea was that jms always mentioned as having. I think I figured it out. In the outline, there is mention of the Earth government being after Sinclair (still believing him to be a traitor) and him being "constantly on the run from military assault groups." If I remember, jms mentioned that Crusade was going to become a show about Captain Gideon having to be on the run. Perhaps that's the side-story he was referring to?

I wouldn't be surprised. If I've learned one thing from reading the script books it's that once JMS has a story he wants to tell or theme he wants to explore, he'll find a way to do it.

I too read the Sinclair-on-the-run bit and thought of jms having made similar statements as to the plans to make the Excalibur be always on the run eventually in Crusade. As has been said before, jms is known for taking plot pieces and shuffling them around to fit wherever he was in production at the time when they became unviable in their originally thought-of form. Perhaps this was another example of that.

Let's hope Crusade is one of those stories he considers worthy of telling! Especially with the original cast.... But any new Babylon 5 is worth telling, fingers crossed though Crusade finally gets told with its original cast, as much as possible.

Honestly, at this point, I doubt that'll happen. jms might still try to tell whatever is rolling around in his head regarding Earth secretly using Shadow tech and the discovery of that causing someone to be on the run, which would have been a huge part of Crusade, but I doubt it'll include the crew of the Excalibur. I think at most he might include Galen, but that'd probably be as far as he'd push for already established characters from Crusade.

He's tried at least once to get part of the Crusade story told. The feature script "The Memory of Shadows" which dead-ended apparently had some part of it.

At the Hawthorne con in New Jersey, I'd written "Mr. Straczynski" and "TMoS 101" on the blackboard before JMS came in. He erased the "TMoS 101" when he came in but when he was asked if we'd ever see more of the Crusade story, he referred back to that part of the blackboard. You can actually see that at http://www.fjordstone.com/jmscon/ . Scroll all the way down to the bottom and watch the little video in the bottom right corner.

I've heard of Churches using schools for services. I guess this is one of those cases.

Yeah, well, the rent is cheap, the pay is decent and I get to make my own hours.

Hmm... anyone else thinking Blake's 7? The Excalibur and the Liberator even look similar.

I thought that the first time I watched Crusade, and knowing JMS is an admirer of Terry Nation's 80s Brit Sci-Fi show, I thought a copycat approach was possible.

But I've since watched "The Making of Crusade" from the final disc of the DVD set which itemizes how the design of the Excalibur came to be, havng gone through several different design stages. Having seen this I'm reasonably sure the likeness is a coincidence.

Yeah, IÆve read on even B7 fan sites that they think the Excalibur was a nod to the Liberator. Though I suspect this might be a classic case of Chinese whispers.

ItÆs pretty widely known that the Drazi Sunhawk WAS a nod (which by the way û like all the model nods including the Starfury, Sigma Walkers, Omega, etc - jms never knew about at the time û the guys at Foundation liked sneaking them in as it drove him nuts when fans asked him about them).

Though RonÆs since expanded on the Drazi one a bit with Thunderbird and Enterprise influences. The Excalibur on the other hand isnÆt. Luc Mayrand hasnÆt even seen Blakes 7 and only recently saw a picture of it for the first time.
