Is there going to be anymore Lost Tales? I don't really see how they would without Richard Biggs playing Dr. Franklin and Andreas Katsulas playing G'Kar.

More Lost Tales?

The first Lost Tales was done after Richard Biggs and Andreas Katsulas's passing. The Lost Tales idea was a substitute for a feature film since they had passed:
jms comic-con 2006 (from Jan's transcription 7/26/2006):
Anyway, they call every so often and want to do something with B5 and asked ôDo you want to do a feature film?ö and I thought about it for a while and I said, ôNo.ö And hereÆs why: A) I donÆt trust movies that much but B) most important, I canÆt see the structure of a B5 movie right now as long as long as Andreas and Rick insist on staying dead. As much as B5 was about the stories of Sheridan and Delenn and those guys, thereÆs the Londo and GÆKar arc that was the clothes line from which I hung all that. And without GÆKaràmaybe in a year or two I can start to see the structure of it but right now I canÆt do something big right now. IÆd love to but I canÆt
So I thought about it and I came back to them and said, ôHereÆs what IÆm thinking. When we did Babylon 5, what I liked were the small little stories that we did as æBÆ plots and as short stories. What if we did a whole bunch of short films? Little mini-movies, each one worked around established B5 characters, not somebody else.

If there are more talks going on, perhaps JMS will share that info in two weeks during the Seattle convention. If so, I'll be sure to post it here.

Before the writer's strike, there was talk of a 2nd one but I don't know if there's been any developments on that after the strike. There was at least one more story written involving Garibaldi which was originally planned for the first disc, but held off because it involved more expensive efx.

I wouldn't expect any large numbers of the cast in TLT for a few reasons...
1) Less actors means cheaper costs.
2) JMS has stated that these are meant to be small stories, not the wide arcs that B5 has been known for, hence less people.
3) JMS doesn't have the time to oversee large productionsWhat a wonderful world you live in. -
Yeah, well, the rent is cheap, the pay is decent and I get to make my own hours.

I think we can all but hope for more lost tales. After some disappointing movies (Legend of the Rangers? What happened there) it was lovely to see another successful and worthy addition to the B5 universe!
I hope you'll come back with a conclusive answer Jan ;-)And so it began - The Minbari point of view
(A Babylon 5 universe story reaching from before the Second Shadow war until well afterwards)
read it on B5 or on fanfiction.net

Regarding more Lost Tales, at the moment two divisions of WB seem to be 'discussing' wanting a feature film or more Lost Tales but come to an agreement and haven't gotten to the point of guaranteeing JMS total creative control in the case of a feature film. The budget for the first disk was only 2 million dollars.
That he seems to be talking about wanting creative freedom for a feature film seems to suggest he might feel like he is up to giving it a go now.Last edited by Shabaz; 05-12-2008, 06:06 AM.

We already knew that WB was interested in a B5 feature film, since that was their original request, that JMS declined in favour of short stories with TLT. More interesting is the reason he declined, namely the loss of two actors, making it that he wasn't really up to telling such a big story in the B5 universe so soon after their deaths, and also that without those characters it would complicate things for him as a writer, since he had no intention of re-casting.

I'd love it if so.)
